Since March, The Campaign Against Hunger has served 4 times our previous annual capacity, from 3 to 12 million meals. These are jarring figures, and even as I write them, they can be difficult to visualize. Thanksgiving laid bare the struggle of our neighbors. We know that 2 million New Yorkers are facing food insecurity, and lines like the ones at our Thanksgiving food distribution events show just how important it is to make investments in our communities. We group volunteers! Their teamwork approach, commitment, and follow-through are so appreciated. Black Men Give is one such group and has been a tremendous support this season12 of their members packed 1251 bags of food in our warehouse location for families around New York City!! As a startup group, they are well on their way to establishing themselves and making meaningful waves. Another day, another civic duty. The Campaign Against Hunger is partnering with Empire BlueCross BlueShield for a series of pop-up clinics to bring free flu shots to our neighbors! In case you missed last week’s opportunity, they’ll be back at our 2010 Fulton Street location on:... Wednesday, November 4 (today) from 1-3 PM Wednesday, November 11 from 11-1 PM Getting a flu shot is an important way to protect yourself from getting sick, like wearing a mask and socially distancing. Remember, COVID-19 isn’t the only threat to public health this season. Help to protect your community by getting immunized!

At TCAH, we know what it is to wait in lines for essentials like groceries. Please know that waiting in line to cast your ballot is essential, too. It’s on us and to create a world where our communities can thriveright now, food insecurity and other policy problems are holding too many of us back. Change starts with your vote. It’s worth waiting in line for, but don’t make your neighbors wait another four years. We must demand more from our to government. As Thanksgiving approaches and the pandemic rages on, the needs of our neighbors are surging. We are so grateful for organizations who give their time and financial resources to lift up our fellow community members. One of life’s great truths: those who hold clipboards mean business. Orchestrating the transition of over 1,000 in-person clients every week through our Fulton Street Benefits Access office, boutique, and pantry is no small taskespecially during a pandemic.
