Transportation Club of Central New York **Cancels** Annual Gala in Wake of Coronavirus: Scholarships to be Awarded SYRACUSE, N.Y., March 25, 2020 The Transportation Club of Central New York announces it has made the unprecedented decision to cancel its annual Gala Dinner for 2020. The May 21st dinner would have been the Club’s 101st in its 102-year history. Scholarships are awarded to well-deserving individuals in the community who are pursuing undergraduate, graduate or c...ontinuing education studies in the field of transportation, supply chain management or any other field of study for the purpose of preparing individuals for professional careers. These are unprecedented times and unprecedented measures are warranted. The board of directors unanimously decided to err on the side of the safety and well-being of all parties involved with this event especially our young students, said Roxanne Compoli, president of the board of directors. While we are unable to have a dinner this year, I am happy to say that we still plan to award scholarships to individuals and present them via U.S. mail by the end of May, she added. ABOUT US The Transportation Club of Syracuse was founded in 1918, and later incorporated as the Transportation Club of Syracuse in 1964. Due to continuing growth and expanding membership the Club’s name was changed again in 1995 to the TRANSPORTATION CLUB OF CENTRAL NEW YORK, INC. The Club exists to promote Educational Programs, encourage the discussion and study of Transportation subjects and to exchange thoughts and ideas among members. SCHOLARSHIP The C.W. Bud Cragin Memorial Scholarship 2020 Scholarship Program Announcement Previous Scholarship Recipients: https://www.tccnewyork.com/previous-scholarship-recipients/... Objective To encourage undergraduate, graduate and continuing education study in the field of transportation, supply chain management or any other field of study for the purpose of preparing individuals for professional careers. Eligibility High school seniors, continuing education, undergraduate or graduate students are eligible. Recipients will be selected without regard for race, color, religion, sex or national origin. The Scholarship Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $500 to $1,000 each. The number of awards will be determined by the Board of Directors of the C.W. Bud Cragin Memorial Scholarship Fund and based on the availability of funds. Selection Procedure Scholarships awarded will be based on application neatness, academic performance (Fall 2019 Official Transcript), extracurricular activities, volunteer service, community activities, work experience, two letters of reference (one academic and one personal), and a 500-word essay. All completed applications with attachments must be postmarked no later than Saturday, March 28, 2020 to be considered and mailed to: Arlene Anderson, 7000 Old Quarry Road, Fayetteville, NY 13066 Announcement and Distribution of Awards Recipients will be notified of their award on or about May 7, 2020. Scholarships will be distributed at the Transportation Club of Central New York’s 101st Annual Dinner on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Recipients MUST be in attendance to receive their award. We are no longer allowing representatives to accept on your behalf.
