The Alice

Holiday Ornament Kits are still available! They can be picked up after noon today and from 10 to 4 the rest of the week. A massive thank you to Steve Fessette for bringing us this gorgeous (and tall!) Christmas tree and helping us get it strung with lights outside the museum on Tuesday. It looked great lit up against yesterday's snow!

The fillable ball ornaments included in our kits offer endless possibilities! I experimented with adding a 3-D image and found that though it’s a bit fiddly in spots it’s definitely doable and very satisfying! To do this you will need access to a printer and software to edit your chosen image so that it fits into a circle 3 inches in diameter. I recommend choosing a photo that has distinct layers in its composition and without too many complicated elements that will be diff...icult to cut out. Print out as many copies of the circle as you needone for the background and then one for each layer. Moving from back to front, cut out the individual elements. So for my photo I have Alice, dog, and cat together, then Alice and cat, and finally just kitty. Glue something to the back of each piece to make it pop out. I used little squares of foam core but you can use thick cardboard or whatever you have around. Glue the layers together in order and then glue the whole thing to the background image. Leave a margin around the edge of the back circle and snip out triangles so you can fold the edge back. The whole thing fits pretty snugly into one half of the sphere and you might not even need to use glue to keep it in place. Put the other half of the ball in place, and you’re done! Let us know if you try it!
