Weird Animal Wednesday Meet the Mary River turtle! This turtle is found in the Mary River in south-eastern Queensland, Australia.... From 1970 to 1990, this species was only known by way of the pet trade. Eggs were collected and sold to pet shops, which was legal in Queensland until 1974. Though scientists searched, pet traders kept the location of the little known turtle a secret for another 25 years. Females reach maturity around 25 years, while males don’t until about 30 years. The females use the same traditional nest sites each year on only a handful of sand banks. Nesting happens anywhere between mid-October and November, on night soon after it has rained. This is potentially due to it being easier to dig when the sand is moist. A little on the low side, females will only lay 12 to 25 eggs per season. A unique feature...they are capable of cloacal respiration. They can obtain oxygen from the water through gill-like structures on the cloaca. This species is listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. Most of the threats they face are related to habitat degradation issue effecting water quality. There are many situations in life where a little legal advice can be helpful. Here is one: "What can I do if my landlord refuses to give back my security deposit?" Answer: Your best bet is probably to file a claim in small claims court. Otherwise, having an attorney write a letter on your behalf to the landlord demanding return of the security deposit may be helpful. Talk to me about which option works best in your situation. Either way, my advice in a matter like this is only $88.00. Book your appointment today online at: https://ourlegaladvice.com/
