Due to continued COVID-19 concerns and restrictions it is with deep regret that the Madison County Fair Board has decided to cancel the 2020 edition of Wheel Days. Our first priority is the health and safety of our patrons, participants, and volunteers. Stay Well, Stay Safe & We Be Ready When 2021 edition of Wheel Days Roll!

In honor of Black History Month we will be honoring African-American people and events from Madison County every Sunday in the month of February. For our final ...post we will celebrate when Frederick Douglass spoke at the The Madison County Fair in Brookfield, New York. Douglass spoke to a crowd of between 9,000-12,000 on October 6, 1856 to the 7th annual exhibition of the Madison County Agricultural Society. Douglass spoke less than a month before the 1856 presidential election which featured republican John C. Fremont vs. Democrat James C. Buchanon. An 1899 article from the Brookfield Courier states that "At the fair, people were literally packed like herring in a box to listen to the address by the Hon. Frederick Douglass of Washington, D.C. The address was a marvel of good sense and native eloquence..." While in Brookfield Douglass stayed with Calvin Whitford, who was a noted abolitionist. See more

In light of ongoing developments resulting from COVID-19 and with a heavy heart the Madison County Fair Board has decided to cancel the 2020 edition of the Madison County Fair. After careful consideration of the mandates imposed regarding the gathering of large crowds, it was determined that it would not be viable to hold a Fair in the early part of July 2020. The health and safety of our patrons, exhibitors, and partners is our first priority. We will continue to monitor and evaluate the situation as we approach the end of September, in hopes that we will be able to celebrate Wheel Days together. In the meantime stay well, stay safe, and start planning for the 2021 edition of the Madison County Fair in Brookfield, New York....
