We love visits from the South End Children's Cafe!

Students in Betsy Tanenhaus’ third grade at TOAST received a hands-on lesson in science courtesy of our community partners at The Radix Center. Joined by Radix ...environmental educator Cait Denny, the class headed to neighboring Lincoln Park to install taps in maple trees, the sap from which can eventually be boiled down into syrup. The scientific outing was part of TOAST’s ongoing partnership with Radix, whose mission to promote ecological literacy and environmental stewardship goes hand-in-hand with the school’s STEM theme.

The forecast is looking cold, but we’re hoping maple season is coming soon! Join us for a sugar maple tapping at Historic Cherry Hill during winter break. All ages welcome and, as always, wear a mask.

We just won a Youth Garden Grant from KidsGardening.org! Radix was chosen from over 800 applicants, and our award will allow us to continue to train our youth employment crew and distribute produce in Albany's South End!

We’re looking for a few individuals that can help collect maple sap weekly in the city of Albany from mid-February to mid-March. Training will be held February 13th at 11AM. Contact [email protected] to register.
