Keeping everyone updated on the progress being made on the Syracuse & Onondaga County Fire Museum. We are pleased to announce the addition of yet another apparatus to the Museum's fleet through the generosity of a local fire apparatus buff. It replicates the appearance of one of Syracuse's many American LaFrance apparatus of the late 1940s through the mid 1950s. We have managed to acquire secure, heated indoor storage for it through the winter until we have the floor plan of the Museum decided upon. Stay tuned - great things are happening!
Just the latest donation to the museum, from craftsman Mike Indick of Indick's Custom Polishing. THANK YOU, Mike - What a jewel. Have something of firematic interest you would like to donate to the museum? Send us a message here. Remember we are a recognized 501(C)(3) not-for-profit organization.
OK, Time for another work day at the museum . . . not a dumpster clean-out day, just a good old-fashioned clean-up day. Mop the floors, wash the windows, clean the windowsills, sweep the stairs . . . All hands on deck, YOU are needed! Sunday, October 4th starting at 10:00 AM at the Museum (229 Wolf Street). I know, I know - Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest. NOT THIS TIME. Join us!
A little more cleanout today - and we are nearly ready to start having SPAAMFAA Chapter meetings. Stay tuned!
Another fantastic clean-out day completed at the Fire Museum - A HUGE "Thank You" to SFD Engine 2 & Truck 2 who showed up and worked like rented mules. At the end of the day, the big construction dumpster is FULL (so not planning on another work day tomorrow - no place to put stuff!) and the cleanout is about 85% complete. A few small areas left where disposition of the "stuff" needs to be decided upon . . . and after that, stay tuned for a wash & wax the floors, clean the walls & bathrooms (they really aren't that bad) and then we should be set for the Media Event planned for October 10th. Stay tuned - and again, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who showed up to get us to this point. Could not have done it without you.
Another productive clean-out day at the Fire Museum. There were only three of us but we got a lot done between 9 AM and noon. We'll be back at it tomorrow - join us!
Just a reminder - We will be holding another clean-out day at the Fire Museum building (229 Wolf Street) tomorrow 09/18 and Saturday 09/19 too, as long as the help and space in the dumpster hold out. Come on out and give us a hand! We'll start at 9 AM on Friday . . . Hope to see YOU there!
WE'RE AT IT AGAIN! It's an "ALL HANDS". We will be doing another dumpster/clean-out day at the Fire Museum building (229 Wolf Street) starting on Friday AM the 18th and extending over the weekend if we get enough help and there's enough room left in the dumpster. Stop by and lend a hand if you can - here's your chance to see the museum "in the raw" before any exhibits are constructed. Spread the word!
A huge THANK YOU to those who showed up to help with this morning's clean-out of the Fire Museum building. The dumpster was full by about 10:30. but there is still more "stuff" that needs to be removed . . . so, we will do it again! Watch this space for details - as soon as another dumpster can be arranged, we will go at it again - and YOU are needed. Thanks again for the help this morning - we made a great start.
We are hoping to do an initial cleanout of the Museum building on Thursday, September 10th. The plan is to have a dumpster there all day - come and help if you can. Even an hour or two helps, and many hands make light work. Hope to see you there!
There's still a LOT of work to do before we're anywhere close to ready to open . . . we will need display cases, shelves, and a LOT of help - but it's going to be great! Here's what the building currently looks like.
Well, we're almost there - Pretty much all the arrangements have been made, and we are in the planning stages for a Grand Opening. We're shooting for Fire Prevention Week in October - and we'll need a LOT of help to get there. We'll need display cases, shelving, and a lot of bodies to help us get set up. I'm looking forward to hearing from YOU.
Former Syracuse Fire Department Engine 12, a 1923 Ahrens-Fox P-S-4 owned by the Central New York Chapter of SPAAMFAA. It will also be a featured display in the Museum.
Former Syracuse Fire Department Engine 1, a 1928 Seagrave - which will be a featured display in the Museum.
