Center Moriches Fire Department Mourns The Loss Of One Of Its Own ... It is with deep regret the Center Moriches Fire Department announces the passing of Ex Chi...ef and 52-year member Gordon Hackney. Mr. Hackney joined the Center Moriches Fire Department in 1969 and was assigned to Company Two. In 1983, Gordon Hackney was elected to Chief of the Department for which he held for 2 years. Wake services will take place at the Center Moriches Fire Department located at 301 Main Street Center Moriches, on Thursday June 3rd from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Firematic Services will be held at 8pm. Funeral services Friday June 4th at 9am at the Center Moriches Fire Department. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery on Montauk Hwy in Center Moriches. The Chiefs, Officers, and Members of the Center Moriches Fire Department would like to extend our condolences to the Hackney family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

Car Slams Into Main Street Business Just before 8:30am on Monday Center Moriches Firefighters were requested to an auto accident with injuries on Main Street... off Union Avenue. When Firefighters and Paramedics arrived, they found a single vehicle into the building. The vehicle which had been traveling west on Montauk Hwy struck a vehicle on the shoulder of the road then veered across the eastbound lanes into the Carpet King showroom on the south side of the road. While Firefighters secured the vehicle, EMT’s and Paramedics treated the driver of the vehicle who was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The business was closed at the time of the accident.
