Congratulations to The Lafayette Trail on its first roadside marker in Virginia! The newly unveiled marker commemorates Gen. Marquis de Lafayette's visit to Suffolk, VA as part of his 1824-1825 U.S. Farewell Tour. Head over to the Lafayette Trail Facebook page for more history and photos from the dedication: https://bit.ly/3gkj48Q #markermonday #historicmarker #virginiahistory

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured or lost their life! We have given grants for Historic Roadside Markers to so many wonderful historic buildings around New York, it would be a shame to see any of them lost or damaged by fire or other disasters. You may not have the resources for the type of documentation that the Heritage Documentation Programs, NPS does, but have you photographed your historic structure? Check out their online exhibit and learn why it's so important to create a record of both the interior and exterior. #historicpreservation #thisplacematters #nyhistory

Mount Pleasant, Iowa was once home to trailblazing women’s suffrage advocate Arabella Belle Babb Mansfield. Following graduation from Iowa Wesleyan University, Belle made history in 1869 when she was admitted to the bar and became the first woman to serve as an attorney in the U.S. Recently, a National Votes for Women Trail (NVWT) marker was dedicated at Iowa Wesleyan to commemorate her legacy. The unveiling also coincided with the university's Belle Babb Mansfield Symposiu...m. For more history about Mansfield's role in the Women's Suffrage Movement, visit our interactive marker map: https://bit.ly/2KYoHOr Learn more about the NVWT here: https://bit.ly/37AuDoH #suffragecentennial #womenssuffrage #womenshistory
