Throughout the month of July, we'll be highlighting different aspects of our method that have been implemented to keep your body safe and moving. Today, we're spotlighting our partnership with physical therapists. From its inception, The Bar Method was developed in partnership with a team of physical therapists. There isn't a move or a modification in any studio that doesn't go under the microscope of our physical therapists on our staff to ensure its safety and effectiveness. To this day, it remains to be one of the biggest differentiators that sets our practice apart from any other workout. We hold your safety in high regardwe always have, we always will! Fold-over is a fundamental move at The Bar Method. Not only does it target both your standing leg and your elevated leg, but it also engages your back and abdominals. When you perform fold-over, make sure your torso is slightly higher than horizontal so your posture muscles and abs support your upper body. If you feel tension in your shoulders, then use the stall bar (or whatever you're using at home to modify) so you can hold on lower and take your shoulder joints out of the movement. Our routines have been changing on the fly lately; we've changed our workout routines, our work days, our morning rituals, even our eating patterns! There has ALWAYS been a spotlight cast on the importance of having a morning routine, but have you considered the imporance of a nighttime routine? This article by The Every Girl will make you re-think that bedtime strategy of yours!
One-weight lifts are one of the most effective moves you can do to get definition in your armsbut only when done correctly. Use a mirror to check out your profile; your spine should be elongated and your shoulders should be square. If you notice that your back is rounded, you will want to shorten your stance and lift your torso to flatten your back. If you are taking class virtually and do not have a light weight to do this move, try using a soup can or bottle of water and follow these same tips! Click to learn more about how you can maximize this movement once you have made sure to execute it correctly.
If the past few months have taught us anything, it's that we can barre from wherever! While our studio will always be our home away from home (and we hope it's yours too!), we know it can be difficult to head indoors when the sun is shining and there's not a cloud to be found in the sky. In today's blog, we're reminding you that you can take a day off of heading into the studio for class or taking a class from your living room every once in a while and instead, you can practice your barre moves outside. Click to read our favorite Bar Method moves to do outside today and then come back and book your next class with us for tomorrow.
We're kicking off the official start of summer with a reminder that self-care means taking care of your body so that it takes care of you. We ask a lot of our bodies so we’re taking a moment to pause and appreciate what it does for us every single day. Summer = more sun, so one way we’re going to show our body some love is by applying SPF early and often. Our skin will thank us. How are you showing your body love and gratitude?
