The Book Fairies 13.01.2021

Thank you to Macmillan Publishers, who donated 2 pallets of new books to us this week! Ranging from baby board books to young adult, these amazing books will be going to high-need areas and will no doubt put lots of smiles on the faces of some deserving children. We truly value partnerships like this and are grateful for the ability to be the conduit of Macmillan’s generosity.

ATTENTION: The reasons why leaving your books like this is NOT GOOD! - We value every book. - The elements can damage the books which costs us money to recycle. - We are a small 4 person staff this just creates more work. - Our space is donated this impedes our landlords work. ... - We are not permitted to block the sidewalk, which will create additional problems for our generous landlord. - We have signs all over the bin asking NOT to do this. - We work hard to accommodate your requests to donate books with appointments to drop off in a socially distanced manner. - We empty the bin every Tues, Wens and Thursday when we are in the warehouse. We GET IT, you want to get rid of your books as soon as possible, but PLEASE help us to continue our work in the most efficient, cost effective manner. DO NOT LEAVE BOOKS OUTSIDE OF THE BIN. Note: Our small staff together with our amazing volunteers distributed over 453,000 books in 2020 in a pandemic. We appreciate all of you who helped us to do so and followed our directions.

In December, The Book Fairies donated almost 400 brand new, beautiful books to the Bellmore Lions' annual Polar Express event where they distribute books, toys, coats and other items to families in need. The Book Fairies is proud to support this incredible event every year!

We love hearing from the recipients of our books! This time, we received an essay from a first-grader who was able to pick out books from the PS 201 book fair in Queens.

The Book Fairies were excited to receive a wonderful donation of new books courtesy of Nancy Golden. Retiring after 28 years of teaching, Nancy generously donated her library of 6th grade non-fiction books to The Book Fairies! She even provided a donation of books from her husband, Author Nel Yomtov! Nel is a writer and artist of children’s and young adult non-fiction for scholastic and other textbook companies. Thank you to Wade Richardson and mascot Dale of the Long Island Nets for lending their muscles to unpack this generous donation of books.
