A group of BNS friends and alums play some masked soccer in the park after day 4 of remote learning. How are your kids staying connected to their school friends? Send us photos of their virtual or IRL playdates to [email protected] to be featured in an upcoming BNS post! #thebrooklynnewschool #bnspta

For kids who will be in our school building in any capacity: In order for us to come back together in-person as safely as possible, please get your child tested for Covid-19 prior to the first day of school. Although the Department of Education is not requiring that all students and staff be tested, we implore you to be tested anyway. Since the coronavirus can be contagious in children and adults without symptoms, frequent testing is one great way to feel more confident that... you are not carrying or spreading the infection. Testing is free for all New Yorkers. You can get a Covid test at any of the 34 NYC Health and Hospitals locations, and you can read about testing and find other testing locations on the link in Anna’s letter on Konstella. Thank you for making this decision to help protect your health and the health of all of our students and staff!! #thebrooklynnewschool #bnspta

The Mayor and Chancellor are announcing that the first day of the 2020-21 school year will be moved to Wednesday, September 16. All students will begin remote instruction on that day to be introduced to online learning for the year. In-person learning in school buildings will begin for blended learning students on Monday, September 21. Teachers will report to buildings on September 8th as originally scheduled and will have six total Citywide professional development days to... coordinate, collaborate and prepare for blended learning. September 21 will be the first day of school for all students - September 16 - 18 will be a transitional orientation period for students to connect with their teachers and access their online learning platform to prepare for remote learning. We will keep you posted with updates to this plan, and make sure to check Konstella often for updates from our admin. #thebrooklynnewschool #bnspta

Join members of our BNS community tomorrow, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 and make our voices heard for a safe return to school. Why are we marching? As a community of educators, parents, and students we believe that the Mayor and Chancellor's current plan for blended learning school reopening is NOT safe, and will not support our students or families. We are demanding they delay in-person learning until all school buildings are up to safety and health codes, and NYC has a rate of 0% ...positive Covid tests for two full weeks. We are also demanding no more budget cuts or teacher layoffs. Supported schools are STRONGER schools for our families, and right now, we do not feel supported. Why should you join? There is GREAT power in numbers. The more representation we have marching with us, the more we can show the city how diverse the community of those affected by an unsafe school opening will be. This is not just an educator issue, this is a CITYWIDE issue. D15 is one of the most racially and socioeconomically diverse districts in the DOE, and with a disproportionate number of families, students, and communities of color affected by Covid-19, this is also an issue of racial equity. BLACK LIVES MATTER in our schools. Who? What? Where? When? The District 15 Rally Organizing Committee (in affiliation with MORE UFT Caucus) A D15 Rally and March to Demand a Safe School Reopening Starting off in Cobble Hill Park and marching to Sunset Park. 11:30am Meet in Cobble Hill Park, 12pm The March Begins. What to bring? Wear a mask, and wear your RED for Ed. (Any red shirts will do!) We will be very mindful about socially distancing in the park and as we march as well, please remember to follow the six foot guideline! #thebrooklynnewschool #bnspta

Opening streets and outdoor learning spaces near and around our school would give our kids and teachers the opportunity to learn in safe and open air classrooms. This has been done before and can be done well if we give our schools the resources they need and the time to plan for this sort of change! Please sign the petition below and encourage your friends to do so as well! #thebrooklynnewschool #bnspta https://sign.moveon.org//outdoor-schooling-now-nyc-must-pr
