#BigFixDayBK free pop-up bike repair, the 1st public philanthropy event of #nycbikemayor Courtney Williams (The Brown Bike Girl) was a huge success -- Have you seen the recap video? The People's Bike Mayor organized teams of professional mechanics, and a squad of volunteers to fixed almost 150 bikes (143 to be exact) and saved East New York, Brownsville, Canarsie, East Flatbush (and a few uptown visitors ;) ) over $3000 in parts and service repairs! The Brown Bike Girl was... motivated to help neighbors in the BK Boro zip codes most severely impacted by COVID infection and highest rates of death recognize & regain access to their bikes as a means of socially distant bike transportation. Most of the areas in the former "two fare zones" are only accessible by crowded buses. Giving free bike repair to overcome finacial hurdles to bike repair in crisis IS the type of transportation, health, and economic equity we need. The Brown Bike Girl hopes to rotate the event to at least two more boroughs in 2021. --- Thanks and acknowledge to the community of supporters who made this possible: - Liv Cycling, Purelements An Evolution in Dance, OrangeYouGlad Design, and countless community members for financial support. - Mechanics: NYC Mechanical Gardens Bike Co-op, Haven Cycles, Bike Rescue, Eddie C's Bike Institute, and Neutral Race Support of Philly,PA - Ridiculuously delicious food: The Migrant Kitchen, Eugenia & Pablo https://vimeo.com/459944018
