Please be aware... From Peekskill City Manager, Richard Leins: "I wanted to advise you of an ongoing water main repair at the intersection of Main and North Division Streets. This repair necessitated the closure of the westbound lane of Main Street and the rerouting of traffic. This is a fairly complicated repair as there are a lot of utilities in the area that need to be cleared in order to complete the work. Con Ed has already been on site and we are awaiting clearance from Verizon in order to proceed with the work. I will update as I have more information once Version is on site. The work will most probably continue today and start up again Monday, however I will let you know once I have further information."

Dear Friends of The Flatz, We are sad to let you know that Big Bang Coffee let us know late this week that after Sunday, they will be shutting their operation at The Flatz. We are surprised and saddened that they are leaving. To answer some of the questions we've been asked: we have not raised their rent, they had an option in their lease to run through the end of this October, and we have no new tenant lined up for the space. ... We are now asking your help. We would like the community space to stay open. We want to offer the same deal to another group to run a daytime eatery/coffee shop in the cafe space. We had been charging $1,200/month for the use of the cafe space. We pay utilities, you pay all your other expenses. We also retain use of the front ballroom for events and art shows; but your customers are welcome to use our tables during your operating hours. We are scheduling meetings with real estate agents to help us locate a new tenant, but this may not happen quickly enough to allow us to stay open for summer art shows. If you are willing to run a pop up cafe, ice cream shop or gallery for July & August, please reach out ASAP. Thank you for all your support.

Christopher Rigney responded to the call for proposals for the Peekskill Project 6 put on by the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (HVCCA) in Peekskill, NY. The guidelines were simple: a community based art project. Having proposed a perfectly suited project months earlier on his blog the opportunity seemed a perfect fit. I wanted to create art the truly involved the community, beyond just ‘checking things out’ one weekend during an opening, he says about the proposal.
