The Genesis Group 10.12.2020

The Genesis Group is pleased to offer "Our View"...an initiative that focuses on pertinent issues and opportunities in our community. Radio Station WIBX Celebrates 95 Years O.V. - "95 years" is a long time to be in business. Local radio station WIBX950 on... your AM dial, is still at it, and doing a great job of reporting local news, sports and so much more. We congratulate them and thank them for their continued focus on the community's agenda. Happy Anniversary. New RoundAbout to Open Next Week With the end of the road construction season approaching, the roundabout on State Route 5S in downtown Utica will be opening soon. Located at the intersection of John Street, the roundabout has been under construction throughout the year, but is expected to open the week of Dec. 14. When navigating a roundabout, drivers should remember to yield three times before the crosswalk, at the yield sign before entering the roundabout and at the crosswalk when exiting the roundabout. State law requires motorists to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. Drivers also should pick the appropriate lane before entering a two-lane roundabout. Motorists should be in the right lane to turn right and the left lane to turn left. O.V. - While the Rt. 5 arterial project has been going on for some time now, the roundabout near the John St. intersection is expected to open next week. We encourage drivers to pay attention and to proceed with caution. This project has certainly changed the look of downtown Utica, but its goal is to make for a safer ride and more efficent traveling. Be careful and enjoy the new experience. Hamilton College Graduate Nominated to Cabinet Post O.V. - Hamilton College has made it to Our View for the second time this week. President-elect Joe Biden turned to former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack to reprise his Obama administration role as U.S. agriculture secretary. Vilsack is a Hamilton College graduate - Class of 1972 - and we thought you'd like to know.

Pearl Harbor ~ A Day to Remember While this Our View series usually focuses on pertinent issues and events in the Mohawk Valley region, we must pay tribute to the memory of this day. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941 marked a crucial moment in American history. The day is still remembered as one of the largest tragedies in the United States' history. Today commemorates 79 years since the attack. President Franklin D. Roosevelt called it a day ..."which will live in infamy." The theme of this year's Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is "Above and Beyond the Call" and is set to focus on Battlefield O'ahu. "The experiences of the soldiers, Marines, Coast Guardsmen and sailors defending O'ahu, as well as the civilians caught in the crossfire, would exemplify courage under fire and perseverance. According to the Naional Park Service, "their spirit at the beginning of the long crucible of war would frame the template for the securing of victory and peace." Today, we encourage you to take a quiet moment to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
