"If you think about a lot of the ways in which we're still taught to behave, the "low maintenance thing", the I'm fine thing, the "I always reply in a timely fashion" thing, we think it means we're modern and independent, but really, these Good Girl qualities may as well come from a marriage manual from 1888." This podcast interview with Heather Dubrow was such fun!

The Good Girl stereotype has endured through the ages because she’s been a valuable asset to society: she’s kept women safe, she’s kept men powerful, and ensured that Good Girl Conditioning was passed on through the way she raised her children. But the world has changed and this basic conditioning has not. The Good Girl was not designed to meet this particular moment in history. Right now, the world is crying out for women who can access their full imagination and agency to s...tand in their power and lead with love. Consider this for a moment. What is the greatest achievement that an ambitious woman a woman with fire in her heart could hope to reach for most of history? What was the best way she could fulfill even an iota of her personal dreams? To marry well. Women have only recently made the transition from being property, to being able to own property. For nearly the entire span of human history, a woman’s best and only hope for a decent life has been to marry well and bring harmo...ny to her family. So when it came to securing a good husband, what kind of candidate had the best chances? Meet the Good Girl...

The idea of women being equal and free is actually very, very new in terms of human history. For millennia, a woman’s best chance to have any of her hopes or dreams fulfilled was to marry well. Unsurprisingly, the qualities of a Good Girl happen to be the ones that make a woman marriage material in the eyes of the Patriarchy: low maintenance, resourceful, demure, self-sacrificing. ... A Good Girl doesn't want money, doesn’t want adventure; she just wants what's best for everyone else. Remember, we are talking MILLENNIA of conditioning here. So to think that in such a brief blink of time we should have been able to just snap out of it is unrealistic. You can’t break free of what you can’t see. The first step to becoming a woman unbound is to start noticing how Good Girl conditioning shows up in yourself and others. Breaking free of the prison of Good Girl conditioning isn’t about becoming bad. It’s about being able to make a conscious choice about how and when we use these tremendous qualities of goodness. A woman unbound can say: I like this, I want to keep doing it. Or, this behavior isn’t serving me I don't need to do this anymore. Or, this I like doing only sometimes, so when I do it I want to do it with my full heart and soul. If you want to learn how to break free of the inherited pattern of Good Girl conditioning to become a woman unbound, join us in Good Girl Reform School. Class begins Tuesday Nov 24th and there’s still time to claim your FREE seat by pre-ordering my book, UNBOUND. Find everything you need to know at www.kasiaurbaniak.com/unbound
