Dreaming of spring days #throwback to last May, seeing @celinedion wearing the Maison Margiela blazer backwards to highlight the orange sash. Matched with a micro-mini bag by Complét and Stuart Weitzman pumps. #privatelynewyork #fashion

#privatelynewyork #history #regram from @metmuseum #TBT to Day 1 of visitors! On February 20, 1872, The Met opened its doors to the public for the first time. This engraving shows the opening reception that evening, which more than 6,000 visitors attended. We weren't in our current home at 1000 Fifth Avenue yetin 1872, we had just secured our first exhibition space through a $9,000, one-year lease of the Dodworth Building at 681 Fifth Avenue between 53rd and 54...th Streets. The Met was founded two years earlier with no art and no building. Now, with a space leased (at least temporarily) and 174 works to our name, as The Met's then-president John Taylor Johnston wrote after the opening: "We may now consider the Museum fairly launched and under favorable auspicesWe have something to point to as the Museum, something tangible and something good." Wood engraving of the Museum's opening reception published in Frank Leslie's Weekly, March 9, 1872. #Met150 #throwbackthursday See more
