While stocks have grown more volatile as the election approaches, interest rates have barely budged. That may not last once the election outcome is clear. Here’s why:
In this month's edition of "Good News" from the Table Rock Group, our very own Ann Troiano highlights some of the great work being done to help place dogs in loving homes. Ann says, "The Lucky Puppy Dog Rescue’s Great Beginnings Adoption Center was opened in Argyle, NY in October 2019. The center is owned by The Lucky Puppy Dog Rescue out of Bonifay, Florida. The owner/director of Lucky Puppy has worked tirelessly since 2008 to help decrease the unwanted dog population in t...he panhandle of Florida by saving, then tending to all their vet care including spaying/neutering the puppies and dogs. Transporting them up to this New York location gives them opportunities to find loving homes. The New York team works to train and find the dogs and puppies the perfect fit with adopters by knowing their behavior, breed characteristics and activity level. I first heard of this place when (like many others) COVID-19 hit and I found myself working from home and would have the time to work with a new puppy or dog that would need some training. That is when I met Hero. He had been in a shelter for 3 years. Hero was originally in a different shelter in Florida and lived through a hurricane in an outdoor fenced in kennel which was a traumatic experience for him. Another organization in Florida called Partners for Pets was helping to get dogs like him adopted. They contacted the Lucky Puppy Rescue and explained his situation. They agreed to take him and transport him up to New York where there weren’t as many dogs so that he would have a better chance of getting adopted. They were right because he was only up here for one week and now he has been living with us for 4 months. He has made huge progress working on his confidence and is very smart and loving. After adopting Hero I decided I wanted to do more to help. I asked about volunteering and found out they get a transport of around 30 puppies and adult dogs every two weeks. There are two amazing women who drive a bus from Florida up to New York and take turns driving straight through for about 21 hours so the animals can get here quickly. Then the New York location reaches out for volunteers and foster families to help unload the puppies and watch them while they are playing to be sure they are playing safe and not getting too rough. They also have baths scheduled for the day after they arrive and they get their ears cleaned and toe nails trimmed. And as if that isn’t enough they have morning chores and afternoon chores where all of the puppies are let out, their kennels are cleaned and then they come back in to eat. Then they are let back out again for more exercise and bathroom breaks. These puppies are given medicine, flea prevention, new collars and so much love and attention. It warms my heart to know that people are out there spending the time and effort to get them into a good home. Personally, I am very thankful that Hero found his way into my home and my heart!
