We just learned from Presbytery of this community-wide event: "You are invited to A Gathering in Silence and Solidarity for Racial Equality and Justice. On behalf of elders and allies in collaboration with Free The People Roc and Black Lives Matter ROC, please join us for a memorial event:... When: Friday at noon to 1:30, October 9. (rain date: Saturday at noon, October 10) Where: Highland Park on Goodman about halfway between Highland and Elmwood. Why: To commemorate and reflect on some of the many lives lost to, and affected by, excessive police force. A bell will ring and a name will be read aloud (Say Their Names!). We will then quietly reflect on each life before continuing on to another. The intention is to show the widespread public support for police reform and the goals of Black Lives Matter, and provide an opportunity for supporters who could not attend earlier protests. This is a moment to show up en masse. Let’s maintain the momentum achieved by the protesters! How: Masks will be required and socially safe distances will be designated. Please bring chairs, blankets and any signs you may have. The site is huge, about halfway between Highland and Elmwood on Goodman. There will be signage and ushers to direct parking which should be plentiful on grass and along Goodman."
