The 2017 Holiday Spectacular Parade and Tree Lighting event is Saturday, November 18, 2017, from 6:30PM to 9PM. This year's event will feature the 3rd Annual Parade from Applebee's to Old Navy, followed by a live acoustic performance with American Idol winner, David Cook (season 7) and the countdown to light our 40 foot tall Christmas Tree. Visit with Santa, take selfies with holiday characters and enjoy the overall magic of the night as we kick off the 2017 Holiday season!

CITY OF YONKERS DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY / SNOW EMERGENCY: https://t.co/s6EBvoSQld YONKERS MAYOR MIKE SPANO DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY DUE TO EXPECTED BLIZZ...ARD CONDITIONS City of Yonkers Cancels City and School Programs Yonkers, NY March 13, 2017 Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced that he will be issuing a state of emergency in anticipation of the upcoming blizzard. Mayor Spano will activate the City’s Emergency Operations Center at midnight tonight, which will be staffed with all essential personnel throughout the duration of the snow storm. As a result of the state of emergency, snow emergency routes and parking regulations are in effect as of midnight tonight. The order mandates non-emergency and unauthorized vehicles off the roads until rescinded by a subsequent order. Parked vehicles in snow emergency routes will be towed at the owner’s expense. The following are closings & cancellations for Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in anticipation of the pending snow storm: Parking Restrictions Alternate side parking rules and meters are suspended. Residents are strongly encouraged to park their vehicle(s) in their driveway or garage, where possible As always, residents should not park on designated snow emergency routes Recycling, Organic & Garbage Collection Recycling Center is closed Organic Yard is closed Tuesday Garbage Pick-Up will be rescheduled The following Cancellations & Closings for the PARKS & RECREATION department are for the general public ONLY: All Senior Programs at Parks Department Community Centers Day and Evening PARKS Recreation Programs at Parks Dept. Murray’s Skating Center Other Cancellations & Closings include: All Yonkers Public Schools All Yonkers Public Schools after-school activities, sports & programs All Yonkers Public Library Branches Landmarks Meeting next meeting scheduled for 4/5/17 Yonkers City Council Meeting Rescheduled for 3/21/17 All Office for the Aging community centers and programs In the effort to protect the safety of residents, Mayor Spano reminds them of the following safety tips: Residents, business owners, property owners and renters should not shovel snow into the street so fire, police and ambulance crews can safely access emergency routes Residents are encouraged to check on their neighbors, especially the well-being of the elderly in their immediate area. Residents, business owners, property owners and renters are reminded to clear their sidewalks and ensure that fire hydrants are clear and clean of snow and ice within six hours after every snowfall, which ends in the daytime, and before 12:00 pm of the day after any snowfall, which occurs during the night. The best advice for driving in bad winter weather is not to drive at all; otherwise don't go out until the snow plows and sanding trucks have had a chance to do their work, and allow yourself extra time to reach your destination. Protect your water meter from icy drafts and freezing temperatures. Most frozen meters are caused by drafts from an open basement door or window so double check your property for drafts as the cold weather sets in In addition, the Yonkers Police Department has issued the following safety tips: Have flashlights, a battery-operated radio or television and fresh batteries handy If you must use candles, please be careful and keep them far away from children and flammable materials Store adequate supplies of non-perishable food that need not be refrigerated If you use an alternate-heating source, such as a fireplace, wood stove or kerosene heater, be sure to provide adequate ventilation. Santa was at Cornell Academy as promised! He took a picture with every child present at school today. Single pictures and sibling pictures. So if you didn't send in your money for the picture, no worries. You still have time to do so before Friday. Just fill out the form available in the office counter or on the table in front of the office entrance!

As always: a success! Our annual multicultural night! All the delicious food, the children's projects, the PTA fundraiser and everything came out wonderful. It was a great event as always! Thank you to all the parents who took time to join us and even more time to cook their delicious dishes, the teachers and staff who participated in cooking and serving as well, our senior class did a wonderful job in decorating and all the project participants did a great job on their work displayed this evening. To our raffle winner Angie, mom of 2 girls: one in PK11 and the other in 1N, congrats on winning the Keurig machine!
