Thousand Island Emergency Rescue Service (TIERS) 29.01.2021

Just before midnight on January 30th, 2009, TIERS and Cape Vincent Ambulances responded to a routine call for assistance, just as we had thousands of times before. This call however would turn out to be anything but routine. The patient would open fire on the EMS crew that night, striking EMT Mark Davis. Mark was pronounced deceased at Samaritan Medical Center in the early hours of January 31st. Mark had committed his life to helping others. He was employed by TIERS, as well... as Guilfoyle Ambulance Service, Watertown. He was also a Volunteer Firefighter and EMT with Cape Vincent Fire Department. He was known among his colleagues as an exceptional patient care provider, and had a personality that could brighten anyone’s day. Those that knew Mark have countless stories of him making others laugh, cracking a joke, or getting himself into (or out of) a little trouble. Twelve years later, those stories are still relatively commonplace around our kitchen table at TIERS. While those that knew him reminisce, newer members learn about a man of integrity. One who would go out of his way to help anyone, and would have been the first to welcome them into our station and teach them the ropes of being an EMT. Though Mark may be gone, his legacy lives on every time our ambulance rolls out the door. Mark B. Davis January 15, 1984 - January 31, 2009 NYS AEMT-P 352235 In The Line Of Duty

A special THANK YOU to our TIERS staff today. TIERS crews have responded to eight different 911 calls since this morning, with two calls occurring simultaneously on two different occasions. One call required transport of two different patients, while another required fire department assistance due to a rather unusual extrication from common household machinery. Thank you to those on shift today, as well as those who came in to help on their day off to answer these calls for help on an uncharacteristically busy Sunday. It is your commitment and dedication not only to TIERS, but to the citizens of the communities we cover that makes the difference! -TF
