10465....Our numbers are alarmingly high!!

Since the pandemic is rearing its ugly head again, we are cancelling our November meeting. Hopefully, the new year will bring some respite from this and with the news of a promising vaccine on the horizon, maybe things will break in our favor. I'm sure by now most of you have seen the road diet on East Tremont Avenue and all I can say is that the craziness that is ensuing is beyond comprehension. Delivery trucks now have to park in the middle of the street to deliver making i...t unsafe for drivers when they have to cross traffic with their deliveries and the bike lane is constantly blocked by double parkers causing drivers to swing onto the yellow lines to pass causing chaos there. There is not enough parking on East Tremont and this is doing a disservice to small businesses if customers can't get to their stores. They are trying to make a living during these stressful times. If we have to go into lockdown again, it will be devastating. Please make sure you shop at our local businesses. In January we will start collecting dues for 2021 as we have expectation we will be able to meet in March 2021. Wow, it is crazy that we lost a whole year. What else can go wrong this year...a pandemic, fires, floods, earthquakes around the globe....When will it end? Hopefully, soon... I saw the Throggs Neck BID's welcoming lights at each end of the Neck and can't wait to see the holiday lights shining again. It gets you into the holiday spirit. The executive board of THHOA wishes you all a wonderful and peaceful Thanksgiving. May the blessings of this time be bountiful for you and your family. If you need us, please message here on our Facebook page, or call at 718-823-0327. Keep checking our Facebook page for information we come across that will get to you in a timely manner...

The Board of Directors of Throggs Neck Homeowners Association wishes everyone a joyous Christmas and holiday season whatever you may celebrate. May you and your family find peace, heath and happiness in the New Year. We don't know what will happen in the next year in regard to having meetings, and our next scheduled meeting is supposed to be in March, but we hope to start zoom meetings in January so we can start to catch up with each other. Any news about a virtual meeting wi...ll appear in January in the Bronx Times and our Face Book page. We will have to work out the logistics and see how it works. Wish us luck in getting it set up. For those that don't know how to log on to zoom, please ask your children or grandchildren to help you. You can do it by phone or by computer. It is really pretty easy! We will start to collect dues in the New Year and the reminders will be sent in January. For new members who wish to join, we will post the information online and in the paper. The dues are $15 per year, which is quite reasonable. You also receive a subscription to the Bronx Times Reporter with your membership. Please keep yourselves safe, wear a mask...it is being respectful of your friends and neighbors to do so. Please check this Face Book page for up to date information or our column in the Bronx Times. You can call us at 718-823-0327.

Hello all!! Well this little bugger, the pandemic, seems to be rearing its ugly head again....The last numbers I saw had zip code 10465 at a 4% infection rate, which is not terrible compared to other areas, but a bit troubling. I hope we don't have to go into lock down again...Our small businesses are already devastated and just were starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel...Please don't forget to order from them when you can to help them to keep going. We need th...em to survive! Unfortunately, we are going to cancel our October meeting and see what November brings. I don't have much hope, though, as most meetings are already cancelled until next year. It seems like the last time we got together was a lifetime ago. We hope that everyone is staying safe. We are all doing the best we can to get through this. It will be nice to see the Throggs Neck BIDS' holiday lights on East Tremont Avenue, as it will be some measure of comfort and sameness to the season which we all need. It is always great to drive down East Tremont Avenue with the lights twinkling above... As for driving down East Tremont Avenue let's not forget about DOT's road diet that was put in without warning! We hate it, we didn't want it, yet it was shoved down our throats by DOT. We've already heard that the double parkers on Tremont are forcing drivers to go off the road diet to get down the avenue. DOWN with the ROAD DIET!! We hope everyone has a safe Halloween, however you choose to celebrate. Keep safe no matter what you do! Early voting starts on October 24!! Avoid the crowds and vote early!! If you need us message us on this page or call us at 718-823-0327.

TN BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION ANNOUNCEMENT...GET READY! I wanted to update you as the MTA prepares to move into the next stage of its ongoing Throgs Neck Bridge roadway deck replacement project, which was introduced last year. You may recall that under this project the MTA will be replacing the original concrete deck, which dates to when the bridge was built in the late 1950s, with a new lighter-weight, stronger steel orthotropic deck. Staged roadway work begins this weekend pre...ceding Monday, September 14th, when a new traffic pattern with a 24/7 lane closure will be in place. The use of a movable barrier will ensure full traffic lane capacitythree lanesin the peak travel direction during the morning and afternoon rush hours. The staged work includes saw-cutting and removing the old concrete-filled roadway deck and installing pre-fabricated steel panels using three overhead gantry cranes that can traverse all six lanes of the bridge. Once installed, the new deck panels are welded and bolted together creating a roadway surface without joints, plus corrosion-resistant waterproofing and a new smooth riding overlay. Other upgrades include painting, new fire standpipe, structural reinforcement, LED roadway lighting, new sign structures, and a new median and side barriers. Deck replacement with staged construction utilizing a movable barrier operation will continue for a total of 15 months, not inclusive of any winter hiatus during which all lanes will be restored to service. This moveable-barrier method of staged deck replacement has been successfully used on projects at the Verrazzano-Narrows, Bronx-Whitestone, and Robert F. Kennedy bridges, enabling motorists to access the same number of lanes during peak travel periods as normally available. All work is being closely coordinated with the neighboring Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, which is available as an alternate option for Throgs Neck Bridge customers. As with any new traffic pattern we expect a period of adjustment for motorists. The Throgs Neck Bridge team remains committed to closely monitoring the construction and its impacts, making adjustments when necessary and safe.
