Beginning last year Suffolk County began allowing the installation of Innovative/Alternative Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems as an alternative to a conventi...onal system. A conventional system is usually either cesspool in older homes or a septic tank and cesspool in newer homes. These new systems are 2 to 3 ties the cost and there are also electric and maintenance costs. You're saying Lou big deal I will just use a conventional system. Well if you live close to the water and are not on sewers say from Sayville/Oakdale east and Fire Island these systems are becoming mandatory. They already are mandatory in the eastern towns and Brookhaven. It is common for Islip, Babylon and Smithtown. I am posting info on these systems and costs. If you or your family and friends live in these areas and are planning home improvements you may be required to use these systems. Suffolk County is offering a Grant of up to $11,000 and in Southampton, East Hampton and Shelter Island are also offering financial incentives to use these systems.
