The 610 Gifford St Community Garden is looking for volunteers for the 2020 season. This project supports the watershed and environment of the Near Westside neighborhood, while providing free food to neighbors and volunteers. We learn together by growing together (growing plants, as well as growing our selves), fruits, veggies, and flowers. We are looking for individuals who would like to join the stewardship team, agreeing to host volunteers and be on site at least once a month during the April-September season (currently during Saturday mornings from 11am - 12:30 pm). This activity is an extension of what we learned in the November 2017 Visioning Voices event focused on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). We will be using the long form of this tool at certain spots along Wyoming Street. How much we get done will depend on how many people attend! What we find will be shared with our City Hall colleagues, residents, and the Take Back the Streets coalition. This pilot/test run will help us learn from and improve the process for future use. The goal is better coordination and communication on built environment fixes we want to see in the surrounding neighborhood areas. Please share and please register, as we will need to know the number of attendees to plan accordingly.

Join us for a special indoors Winter Friends and Family event celebrating our volunteers at the 610 Gifford St Community Garden. We'll be meeting up in the lobby of the Cosmopolitan Building at 1153 West Fayette St, from 11am-1pm on Saturday February 10th - making seed bombs together to take home, having a lunch together, and making plans for Spring! Come even if you have not volunteered with us before and learn about what we do, and how you can get involved. New volunteers are very welcome. On Wednesday, November 15th, the Near Westside neighborhood will host Greg Saville, the founder of SafeGrowth, for a presentation and workshop on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).... The event will include a brief introduction to CPTED principles, a neighborhood tour led by local residents and community members, a presentation and workshop led by Greg Saville, and community dinner. All events will begin or occur at the St. Lucy’s Auditorium, 423 Gifford Street.
