In celebration of the Ithaca Marriott becoming a Living Wage Employer last month, Monks is raising money for the TCWC in support of the work we do in our community. Join us for dinner Wednesday or Thursday (June 23/34), and Monks will donate 50% of the total dining proceeds from both nights to TCWC! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Since its inception in 2003, the Tompkins County Workers' Center has been at the forefront of efforts to support working people in Tompkins County and upstate New Yo...rk. We have organized to raise the NYS Minimum Wage but also gone beyond this with our Living Wage Certification program, the first of its kind in the nation; assisted thousands of workers to assert their rights in the workplace including successful claims of wage theft totaling close to $1.5 million; and worked to empower employees seeking democratic rights and fairness through unionization. The authors argue that an opportunity currently exists to reduce pre-pandemic racial disparities and wage inequalities and to avoid a return to business as usual. The report suggests some ways that the workforce development system can address barriers to work and support the growth of living-wage jobs, especially through more listening to service users and front-line workers in the community, especially people of color.
