TODAY IS JUNETEENTH A DAY TO REMEMBER AND TO CELEBRATE Juneteenth commemorates the end to slavery and celebrates Black and African American freedom and achievements. It was June 19, 1865, when the news of emancipation came to Texas more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation went into effect on January 1, 1863. African Americans across the state were made aware of their right to freedom on this day when Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston with federal troops to read General Order No. 3 announcing the end of the Civil War and that all those enslaved were now free, as well as to maintain a presence in Texas for the purpose of enforcing emancipation among slave-owners throughout the state. We wish all a happy Juneteenth!

UPDATING THE TOWN CODE When the Town Board adopted an updated Comprehensive Plan in October 2019, it adopted the basis for revisions to our Town Code, including the Zoning Code. Tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday January 13 at 3.00pm, the Town’s consultants, John Steinmetz and Molly Gaudioso of Barton and Loguidice, will host the introductory session for Board members, Town staffers and me, to kick off the Code update. You can watch the session here: https://townofpittsford.zoom.us/j/86438064092.... The meeting ID is 864 3806 4092. Among items to be discussed are the planned public workshops for participation by Pittsford residents, which will comprise an important part of the process of updating the Code.
