CARLTON ROAD WATER MAIN BREAK UPDATE FROM HIGHWAY SUPERINTENDENT Dahn Bull Carlton Road to Remain Closed Late on the afternoon of Friday, June 10, 2021 a 12" water main ruptured on Carlton Road in the Town of Clifton Park. The Clifton Park Water Authority and the Clifton Park Highway Department worked throughout the night and into the early morning hours repairing the broken water main. While water services were restored, the break caused significant damage to Carlton Road i...ncluding the area under the train overpass. The location of the break was located in the center of Carlton Road under the stone arch bridge. Extensive erosion of the road base as well as downslope conditions caused widespread damage to the road. Over 150 feet of the road has been completely destabilized and will require a full rebuild from the subbase of the road to the final top course. It is unsafe for vehicles and pedestrians to travel over the road since there are large empty cavities under the road. Carlton Road will be closed from Van Patten Drive to Kinns Road. Access to local traffic to the homes on Carlton Road is available, but there will be no through-traffic under the bridge arch. The Highway Department will continue to work with the Clifton Park Water Authority on reconstruction and reopening of the frequently used road. As Carlton Road is a main thoroughfare for the town, the Highway Department is looking to expedite this process as quickly as possible.

Another hit from winter weather today with possible accumulations between 3-4 throughout the day. Both the morning and evening commute will be affected. Two i...mportant things to notice for today - 1. Temperatures, especially road temperatures, are very low with some areas below 10 degrees. High School Chemistry taught us that in order to slow down a reaction, you need to cool it down. Well, that’s exactly what happens to salt melting snow with these temperatures. Road salt is going to take its time working today. 2. This snow should be pretty fluffy. According to the National Weather Service, the moisture content for the presumed four inches of snow, is 0.3 inches of rain. Typical snow accumulation is a 1:10 inch ratio. One inch of rain for every ten inches of snow. Well this ratio is about 1:13-14. Fortunately for shovelers, it’s going to be light. Hoping this is out of here between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM!

HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT AND NATIONAL GRID TO PARTNER IN ADDRESSING TREES IMPACTED BY OCTOBER STORM The Clifton Park Highway Department in coordination with National Grid, and Asplundh Tree Services, will be performing extended tree maintenance on Town Roads in Northern Clifton Park beginning on Thursday, December 10, 2020. The roads affected by tree trimming will be Ushers Road, Hubbs Road, Hatlee Road, and MacElroy Road. ... After the events of the October 7th Derecho, (a line of intense, widespread, and fast-moving windstorms characterized by damaging winds), the Clifton Park Highway Department and National Grid worked in conjunction to identify areas where utility and roadway infrastructure was most impacted. As a result, work will be done to trim and cut trees that have the potential of damaging power lines and closing roads in the future. This partnership is the result of several widespread power outages and damage to infrastructure that occurred over a short period of time this Fall. Representatives from Asplundh Tree Services and the Clifton Park Highway Department will be intermittently working on these roads. Delays and detours may occur in these areas. Please be cautious as you travel through these areas. Residents may be contacted by crews to discuss the work needed to be done. All work will be weather dependent and will last several weeks. For additional information and changes throughout the extent of the project; residents can visit the Town webpage at www.cliftonpark.org or follow the Town on Facebook.
