IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SENIOR (AGED) AND DISABLED PERSONS EXEMPTIONS On December 28, 2020 the New York State Legislature held a special session to pass the COVID-19 Emergency Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Act. A11181/S9114 passed both chambers and was signed into law by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. Included in the legislation (Sub-part D) is a provision that covers the senior citizens and persons with disability exemptions for the 2021 assessment roll. If you re...ceived a Senior Citizens (Aged) exemption or the exemption for Persons with Disabilities and Limited Incomes for the 2020 assessment roll, you do not have to renew your exemption for this year. If you feel you may qualify for a larger exempt amount (e.g., due to a reduction in income) you may file a renewal application. 2020 Holiday Decorating Contest! It was so inspiring and uplifting to see all the houses in our community. We had 30 entries, but the amount of lights and decorations around Wawarsing is just incredible. We are thankful for the public's interest in adding just a little bit of happiness to this unforgettable year. It was not easy to choose winners, they are all winners in our book! But, we had to choose. Music was a big factor as was animation in a contest that truly was too c...lose to call. Thank you to everyone who decorated and all those that took the opportunity to drive around the community and admire the hard work. MESSAGE FROM TOWN OF WAWARSING SUPERVISOR TERRY HOUCK As we all know there has been a recent increase in covid-19 cases all across the Nation and today’s report from Governor Cuomo states a 27% increase throughout the State in the last week. Unfortunately the Hudson Valley is experiencing levels of covid-19 spreading similar to this past springtime. We are entering the 10th month of confirmed cases in Ulster County. It is important to ...note that these numbers only reflect the infection rate based on covid-19 tests, not those people that are unknowingly asymptomatic who can transmit the covid-19 virus. Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan stated yesterday that the number of cases have nearly quadrupled in the month of November. The active caseload was at 257 on Nov. 1 and 402 two weeks later. It has more than doubled in the two weeks since, nearly 1000 active cases. We must adhere to the fundamental protocols(social distancing and, wearing face masks, washing your hands) to help fight the spread. Town of Wawarsing has 34 Active cases, 215 confirmed cases, 176 recovered cases and unfortunately 5 fatalities to date. Given this being the Holiday Season and colder weather coming, resulting in being inside more we all must take precautions to keep ourselves, friends and family, and our neighbors safe. Yes it is stressful but I know we can Do this.

The Town of Wawarsing is seeking applicants for the position of Cleaner for the Town Hall Building. The position is part-time, 17.5 hours per week. Weekly hours and salary to be determined by the Town Board. Applications can be picked up at the Town Clerk's office, 108 Canal Street, Ellenville. Applications are to be returned to the Clerk's office on or before Wednesday, November 4th, 2020 at 12 noon. The Town of Wawarsing is an equal opportunity employer.
