Another must read book I finished recently. Disability Visibility edited by Alice Wong features first person accounts of living with a disability. This collection highlights the varied experience of living with disability. It includes stories that discuss the intersection of disability and race, gender, sexuality and socioeconomic status. This is the kind of collection that will leave you thinking about some stories long after you read the last page. ... When reading about someone’s experience with the NYC Access-A-Ride system I kept reflecting on my time as a social worker in the city. It was part of my job to help patients set up their rides, but beyond that I had no understanding of all of the problems within the system itself. This was another reminder to me that while our clinical training and experience have great value, to truly offer good patient care ( in a variety of settings) we need to be open to hearing from people about their own lived experience. This should be complementary to our formal training and certainly not optional. If you’ve read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts! #disabilityvisibility #healthcare #recentreads #tri2flow

Sharing a must read book with you today- The Collected Schizophrenias by Esmé Weijun Wang Wang shares her experience of living with schizoaffective disorder. A voice we don’t often hear. She addresses everything from the stigma around certain mental health conditions & navigating the healthcare system to her relationships with others and more. ... With such unpleasant associations tied to the schizophrenias, it is no wonder that I cling to the concept of being high-functioning. As in most marginalized groups, there are those who are considered more socially appropriate than others, and who therefore distance themselves from those so-called inappropriate people, in part because being perceived as incapable of success causes a desire to distance oneself from other, similarly marginalized people who are thought to be even less capable of success. This is a book that should be required reading for all mental health professionals and those in training. I would have greatly benefited from reading something like this in graduate school! Far too often in our clinical training we miss out on hearing the voices of those we are trying to help. #thecollectedschizophrenias #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #therapist #therapy #tri2flow

A little snowy yoga session to start the day. Loving @mamaspaceyoga online content for prenatal friendly flows and meditation. Perfect for busy parents/parents to be who might have a limited amount of time to squeeze in some movement. You can filter classes by length and today I did a wonderful 19 minute practice. #tri2flow #prenatalyoga #maternalmentalhealth #joyfulmovement

So last week this happened! Being pregnant during a pandemic has been challenging to say the least. I’m so grateful for my amazing doctors who spent as much time as I needed discussing this with me ( even after hours). I am grateful for science. I am grateful for the healthcare workers going above and beyond to care for people during the pandemic. I’m grateful for everyone who was working the vaccine clinic. THANK YOU! Also grateful to @mamadoctorjones @dr.martaperez @jessic...amalatyrivera @kinggutterbaby for using their platforms to educate people & explain the science ( I follow them on my personal IG account) . I’ve learned a lot from them and they’ve helped me feel confident in my choice! Wore my @hooray.for rainbow t-shirt to celebrate these rainbow babies and the hope that comes with vaccines Disclaimer: this was my personal choice after discussing at length with my doctors and spouse and not up for debate. Everybody has different situations, needs, risk levels, etc. If you’re pregnant and made a different choice, I support you #grateful #vaccinated #maternalmentalhealth #pregnancy #tri2flow
