I'm a big advocate for slow and scaling speed sparring but it's important to know how to use each speed effectively and appropriately. This week's DTV post pro...vides a summary of the five speeds we use and gives some thoughts on how to best apply them in your training. Are others here using slow sparring or scaling speeds in your training? See more

Short New Year's Post- Class tonight at 5PM at the rec center. This year promises much hope and lots of opportunity for individual growth and when our health crisis is over we will start growing our class sizes again. Many members have contacted me about getting back into training and I hope to see you all soon! Please stay tuned for what we have planned for 2021! Thank you! -Alex

We uploaded another one of my Zoom lectures to Swordplay Online (in the free section). This one does touch on Vadi himself but is primarily on the Montefeltri and Urbino.

Let’s shake off the bad vibes of 2020 with the eighth annual 30 for 30 Swordplay Challenge starting January 2nd! Join the group, set a training goal for yoursel...f for the month of January and then do at least 30 minutes per day of swordplay toward your goal for the next 30 days. Share your progress, successes, challenges, and inspiration in the group on the daily training journal posts. It’s a ton of fun and a great way to start 2021 right--sword in hand.

Class tonight as scheduled 5PM-7:30PM at the Park- just wanted to share some thoughts- Although there are many reasons to put your energy into sports or martial arts, what stands out to me is the concept of Growth- personal growth, education, physical fitness and emotional growth- mind, body, spirit! Since the world is upside down right now it presents many challenges for all of us everywhere. To everyone that isn't able to train with us for whatever reason I'm keeping down ...the fort so when and if you choose to return our local community will still have a place where you can do that. At the moment our classes are smaller and we are dealing with the sun going down earlier but thankfully the lights have been coming on at the pavilion. We may end up back at the rec center during the winter and we do have a contingency plan for Friday Morning. As far as growth goes- We just started some new material from later Italian sources that Ben is diving into and I'm right now trying to learn in my kitchen- it's a process, especially for me! The thing that I am the most excited about is that I have an awesome English riding instructor that's taking me from the ground up on horsemanship (I can help anyone set up your own lessons)- it's quite a complicated discipline and so much more than you can learn on a trail ride! I have not yet figured out how that's going to part of our program for the future but I suspect it will in some way! I'm hoping to see our full group back together in the future and I hope everyone is healthy and finding their own path to growth! -Alex See more

Just a note looking towards winter- there are some plans for indoor training- the rec center is still unavailable at the moment but may open up in December- I’m working on it!

Class tomorrow at 8AM at the park pavilion. Rain is probable but not a problem- Monday Night it rained and we stayed nice and dry. See you then- bring a sweatshirt or your fencing jacket!

Because of the ripples in the parchment, it's pretty impossible to illumine of the metallic elements of a page at once, sadly. You have to go in and carefully l...ight each miniature individually, and even then, with one light source it was often not possible to get the sword and the crown/garter lit properly at the same time. I think doing a full page properly would require a studio environment with not only a tripod camera rig, but also lots of small lights arranged around the page. (Tripods were not even an option for me, being forbidden by the terms of the reading room.)
