A report on WGRZ - Channel 2, Buffalo, also published in Businessfirst, on the toll the pandemic has taken on students quotes Stephanie Fredrick, associate director of the Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention. Fredrick said while it’s too soon to know what the long-term effects will be, the pandemic is affecting kids’ social and emotional health in multiple ways, from depression to anxiety to isolation. Bouts of remote learning meant many students didn't see their peers in-person, Fredrick said, according to the article. They also might not have seen relatives outside immediate family, not have interacted with friends outside school as often and missed out on typical high school traditions such as homecoming, prom and graduation. https://www.wgrz.com//71-92736c64-adbc-4f21-9358-84d4b0487

The Buffalo Strong Pride Town Hall hosted by WKBW anchor Ed Drantch featured Amy Reynolds, professor of counseling, school and educational psychology, among a number of local experts in education and outreach. I think there’s just so many more resources out there and that helps people who are more isolated. And I do think there is more openness, said Reynolds. I do caution us to be not too overconfident. I just read yesterday the stat that 70% of people were for marriage e...quality. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t still a lot of bias and harm being done, and we need to kind of hold both of those realities at the same time, and know that while things are getting better, there’s still a lot of people that are struggling a lot of young people who don’t feel accepted and can’t accept themselves, and we have to do better. Reynolds’ interview begins at the 11:15 mark of the video. https://www.wkbw.com//buffalo-strong/watch-buffalo-strong- See more
