Happy thanksgiving! We will be closed for the 26th and 27th and back open for business bright and early on the 28th. As we celebrate our eighth holiday season here at Union Beauty, I wanted to take the opportunity togive you an update and give thanks, because while there is so much that is out of our control, there is much to be thankful for. I am grateful that through Monday, we have served 2,182 guests since July with no incident of Covid infection (knock on wood). Not a ...single staff person, visitor, or guest has refused to wear a mask although sometimes it’s hard not to hug. I’m grateful for this team, who have really shown up, in a time that’s new and challenging and difficult, for what they believe in and what they want in the world: a kind, supportive, safe place to welcome our guests and give them great hair. I’m grateful to be in New York, a place where despite our differences, we largely come together to do what needs to be done to keep each other safe. Mostly, I’m extremely grateful for you, our guests. I’m thankful for your trust, your faith, and your support, now and always. When New York State was overwhelmed with unemployment claims that created a delay getting benefits in the hands of the staff, our clients donated $11,095 to our GoFundMe which created a bridge in that uncertain time. Simultaneously, our clients showed up for the shop, buying $32,000 in gift cards through March and April. These funds helped us meet our expenses while we were shut down, which included covering a huge chunk of payroll taxes generated but not covered by the PPP payrolls. And when we reopened in July, there was truly nothing better than seeing your quarantine hair and bringing you back to normal. Especially when normal was a new look because you were forced to grow your hair out for months. Personally, I have loved this: being with my staff, being with my client friends, creating a space for joy in a world that’s pushing us from all sides. It made me realize we will get through all of this, however it looks on the other side, because we’re determined, and we care about each other. Introducing the newest member of the Union Beauty team. Mark’s joined Union Beauty as a part time colorist/stylist. A 33-year industry veteran and California native, Mark knew this industry was a fit for him when in high school he befriended the stylists in his salon. He saw the opportunity to fulfill his creative side and make close connections with people at the same time. He began his career at Michaeljohn salon in Beverly Hills, and moved on to Jeffrey Alen Salon in Palm... Desert most recently. Mark’s style is truly classic, and he has many years of corrective color experience. A client looking for a natural look would be delighted in Mark’s chair. A big fan of equestrian sports, Mark competes on hunter/jumpers and has ridden (a bike) for two consecutive years in the AIDS/LifeCycle ride.
