Today, we roll out our petition to Education Commissioner Rosa demanding a New York Statewide suspension moratorium for the 2020-2021 school year. Our communities have been the most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and we don’t need suspensions to further push us out of schools. While schools work to minimize chronic absenteeism, it is equally important that policies and procedures focus on the academic and social, emotional consequences of lost instructional time and school pushout due to racist school discipline policies.
