The best present this year has been seeing our residents, APPs, nurses, attendings, environmental workers, and other healthcare heroes receive their COVID-19 vaccine over the course of the last few weeks!

Here’s our next chief of the week, our other admin chief, Carla Justiniano @carla_justiniano! Carla was raised in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and moved to the United States when she was 9. She completed her BS in Molecular Genetics and MD at The Ohio State University. During residency, she spent two years dedicated to surgical outcomes & health services research at SHORE while also earning an MPH from the University of Rochester. She has recently matched at Cleveland Clinic (@clevelandclinic) for Colorectal Surgery! When not at work, Carla enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 miniature schnauzers, cooking and going to CrossFit RSG.

Here’s our chief of the week, Colin Powers! Colin was born in Manila, Philippines and moved to the United States at the age of 17. He joined the US Navy from the age of 17 to 23 and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. After completing his military service, he returned to finish his schooling and received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park and his medical degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore City. He began his residency in 2012 but took a break in 2015 to conduct tumor immunology research at the Roswell Park Cancer Center for 3 years. He will begin his fellowship in Abdominal Transplant at UPMC in 2021.
