#BZ to #USCG Station #Montauk on their rescue of two crew members from a disabled Boston Whaler 6 nautical miles off of Montauk Point! The vessel was taking on water in heavy weather, rendering it unsafe to tow. The Station Montauk crew helped anchor it and got all persons on board safely to shore. Don't brave the storm! Yesterday afternoon, a U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City helicopter crew rescued three people from their disabled recreational boat that was caught in heavy surf off of Fire Island, New York! The quick actions taken by U.S. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound, US Coast Guard Station Fire Island and U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, turned a dangerous situation into a successful rescue. This morning, our members did amazing work helping a 42-y/o man with chest pains 7 miles south of Block Island, #RI, on a charter vessel. The #USCG Cutter Tybee brought 2 EMT's for initial treatment, before a crew from Sta. #Montauk delivered him to an ambulance onshore. Great job, U.S. Coast Guard Station Montauk, New York ! The crew at Station Montauk responded to a report of a stranded mariner on top of an overturned catamaran today in Gardiner's Bay, New York. With the help of the i911 system, the crew was able to pinpoint the boater's location, enabling a quick rescue. This morning U.S. Coast Guard New York held a ceremony honoring the life and service of the U.S. Coast Guard's only Medal of Honor recipient, Signalman First Class Douglas Munro. Douglas Munro died on September 27, 1942, while evacuating Marines from the island of Guadalcanal in a Higgins boat during WWII. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his act of heroism.
