VMHS Early Dismissal - Thursday, Dec. 10 Good morning Valhalla Middle/High School families: Due to a high number of pandemic-related and unanticipated staff absences at Valhalla Middle/High School today, we are unable to sustain in-person instruction throughout the day. Therefore, VMHS will be dismissing after Period 4 (10:52 a.m.). Transportation will be provided; students will be bused home as normal.... Remote learning will continue this afternoon. Periods 5 and 6 will not meet in order to give students time to arrive home. Instruction will resume remotely for Period 7 at 12:21 p.m. and continue remotely until the end of the school day. Students should check their Google Classroom for instructions from their teachers.

Introduction to COVID-19 Testing Plan With COVID-19 infection rates continuing to rise across New York State, the Valhalla Union Free School District is preparing for the possibility of entering a microcluster zone. Last month, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo implemented a cluster action initiative (Yellow, Orange, Red zones) to address COVID hotspots and mitigate their spread. Currently, there are several municipalities across Westchester County that have been deemed a ...microcluster. As the number of positive test results steadily climb, epidemiologists anticipate that microcluster areas will expand. If a school district is in a municipality that is declared a microcluster, it is mandated to COVID-test a percentage of its population in order to continue with the in-person instructional model. While we are not currently in a microcluster, the Valhalla Union Free School District is being proactive and asking to obtain consent to COVID test our students. This will help us be prepared to adhere to the state’s guidelines in the event that our area becomes a microcluster.

On Nov. 12, Kensico School students participated in Show Your Colors Day, which was part of the districtwide Spirit Week celebration.

On Nov. 10, Virginia Road School students participated in Be Kind Day, which was part of the districtwide Spirit Week celebration.

IMPORTANT: Thank you for your cooperation with respecting health and safety protocols. It has helped to keep our students, staff members and community safe. Your efforts are a large part of why our school district is able to remain open during this pandemic. Our goal is to keep the Valhalla Union Free School District open as long as we are safely able to do so. However, New York State and especially our tri-county area is facing an infection upswing. Depending on the avai...lability of our staff members (due to their need to quarantine and/ or isolate), there is a possibility that our instructional model may need to change we may have to pivot to remote learning by class, grade level or building. While we will do our best to give our community members as much notice as possible before we make any decisions for a group to transition to remote learning, there may be times that decisions have to be made quickly. We encourage families to have childcare arrangements in place in case such an event occurs (similar to snow day arrangements).
