After years of planning construction has finally started on the new fire station. Site work is being done and interior partition walls were built as temporary modifications are being made to facilitate uninterrupted fire service during construction.

Today the NJ-NY Volunteer Firemen's Association Officers were at the Rockland Lake Fire Department for a Unit Citation Award to Rockland Lake and the mutual aid... units who assisted on a mountain rescue involving an injured hiker on Friday evening May 22, 2020. Knickerbocker Fire Engine Company Rockland Lake, N.Y. Organized 1862 June 12, 2020 On Friday evening May 22nd 2020 at 2217hrs our department was dispatched along with the Congers-Valley Cottage Ambulance for a report of an injured hiker on the mountain plateau at the rear of the fire station. Arriving on scene our firefighters ascended the trail and proceeded to the plateau area approximately 1200ft up from the fire house, after locating the young male victim he was found to be twenty (20) feet down from the ledge with serious injuries. At this time do to the assessment of the situation and location the Rockland County Technical Rescue Team and Valley Cottage FD were dispatched to aid in stabilization and removal of the injured party. Arriving on the scene the TRT Team Leader recommended to the Operations Sector and the Incident Commander to have the Nyack & Piermont FD High Angle Rescue Team, Congers and West Nyack FD along with the Westchester County TRT Team be dispatched to the scene do to unstable terrain and safety of the rescuers and the victim descending the mountain with only the use of hand lights. Note:do to the weather condition no helicopters were available for lighting of the terrain. The young victim was removed from the mountain and transported to the Westchester Medical Center at 0201hrs (May 23, 2020) by the CVAC Ambulance. If not for this team effort I feel the outcome may have had a different ending. To wit: at this time I would like to have the units and responders be considered for the NJ-NY Volunteer Firemen’s Association Unit Citation Award. This weekend VCFD firefighters joined Congers firefighters in attending the annual Memorial Day service hosted by the Congers VMA.

VCFD firefighters pitched in to support the efforts of Keep Rockland Beautiful this afternoon.

Board members of the Hudson Valley Firemen’s Association traveled to Valley Cottage today to award Asst. Chief Christopher Dillon the Association’s Past Presidents Firefighter of the Year Award for his life saving actions at a structure fire on Sierra Vista Lane in the Central Nyack Fire District. We also welcomed members of the Pearl River Fire Department present to receive a Unit Citation for operations under challenging conditions at a complex vehicle extrication in the Pearl River Fire District.

This Sunday VCFD firefighters participated in training on impalement situations. These are incidents in which people are injured by or trapped by foreign objects which have become lodged in the victim.
