VCS has a more than 50-year history in #RocklandCounty and plays a critical role in maintaining, supporting and nurturing the social fabric of the community. VCS offers a wide range of services to a broad range of people. But the cog in the VCS wheel is the #mentalhealth safety net it provides, and which is bound together by the greatly-needed services for those who have little-to-no access to mental health support. It is a day that commemorates #fatherhood and appreciates all fathers and father figures (including grandfathers, great-grandfathers, stepfathers, and foster fathers). #Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of #slavery in the U.S., dates to June 19, 1865, when soldiers of the Union Army landed in Galveston, Texas, with news that the #CivilWar had ended and the enslaved were free. A state holiday or special day of observance in 45 states, Juneteenth is amplified in 2021 because of the racial reckoning unleashed by the death of #GeorgeFloyd in 2020. Please don't ever forget that #racism causes trauma. Racism... is a mental health issue. Racism affects us all.
