Is the soil sloping away from your house foundation? To prevent moisture intrusion into your basement, make sure the grade of the soil drops 2 or 3 inches over 10 feet. Also make sure the gutter downspouts extend at least 4-5 feet away from the house, but the farther the better. Connecting downspouts to discharge far away from the house or into the storm sewer system is a great idea. Alternatively, you can collect and store that water to use for gardening and landscaping on dry days. Vendi can help with all your grading and storm water management projects!

If your home was built prior to 1960 it may have a galvanized metal water service line into the house. This type of pipe can eventually rust on the inside and cause water flow and possibly lead problems. If the water line into your basement is gray-silver when scratched you likely have galvanized pipe. If you scratch or scuff on the pipe and it is a copper-gold color you have copper and are fine. Please call Vendi to schedule a time for someone to give a free estimate for water service replacement if you discover you have galvanized piping!
