COVID-19 update as of January 6th at 3:00pm. We received 21 new cases today. Ten cases are close contacts of previous positive cases, two cases are Penn Yan C...entral School District students, and two cases are travel related. Sixteen more cases recovered today. We are extremely inundated at Public Health with the increase in number of cases over the past few weeks and trying to do everything else including COVID-19 vaccinations. We are a very small health department and I can assure you we are doing the very best we can. If you have tested positive for COVID-19, please stay home and isolate yourself from others in your household. Please start making your close contact list and notify them all that you have tested positive for COVID19 and have your list ready for Public Health when we give you a call. We will call you as soon as we can to complete your interview but please note, it takes sometimes days for the lab to report to us your positive result. We know our community members are anxious about getting their COVID-19 vaccine. Please understand we do not make the decision on who gets the vaccine and in what phase. This is determined by New York State Department of Health. We have no control over it and if you are frustrated by this, please call NYS. We have to follow the criteria of each phase or we can be fined by NYS. Please continue to be patient and when vaccine becomes available for Phase 1B which now includes both essential workers and adults 75 and older, we will let you know.
