Please be safe outside this summer!

The centennials keep rolling along. Corning's Centerway Bridge (as we know it) was started in 1920, and the first traffic putted across in the fall of 1921 (th...ough the surface wasn't paved until the following year). When created it was an impressive modern structure for a growing community shouldering its way through the new century. The ravages of time and floods... plus ever-increasing traffic flow... brought proposals for demolition. By community demand the bridge was refurbished for limited traffic, and now for pedestrian traffic only. See more

There are 14 new cases of COVID today. Thankfully, 27 more have recovered. Our weekday clinics in Bath and Hornell are now offering both Johnson & Johnson an...d Moderna. Walk ins are accepted at both locations, or participants can register at www.steubencony.org/covid. The Bath clinic is open Monday - Friday from 10 am - 2 pm. The Hornell clinic is open on Tuesdays only from 10 am - 2 pm. These clinics are available for anyone age 18 or older. We have always strongly recommended and still do encourage eligible individuals to take the first opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of the manufacturer. We also understand that some have preferences on vaccine type or are more willing to receive one shot over two, which makes having the ability to offer two types of vaccines at our weekday clinics a big benefit for the community. Pfizer is not currently available at the Bath or Hornell clinic. As we receive Pfizer, clinics will be advertised as they are scheduled in various locations around the county. Pfizer will be offered at Monday, May 17's clinic at Jasper-Troupsburg High School from 4 - 6 pm. This is a walk in clinic and information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/SCNYPublicHealth/posts/3710974852348155 As a reminder, Pfizer can be used for anyone age 12 and older.

There have been 81 new cases of COVID-19 since our last report on Friday. Sadly, there have been six deaths since Friday. Thankfully, 88 more have recovered. T...here are no adequate words to express the level of tragedy this weekend brought to families. Information is provided every day about how dangerous this virus can be, and we are seeing firsthand the damage it has caused locally. Let this knowledge guide your decisions about gathering this week and for holidays. We all want to see family and friends, but a smaller gathering this year may make the difference between one last Thanksgiving or many to come. We have seen time and again the impact of bringing together people from various households. It’s not only large gatherings that can create multiple positives and even more contacts. For example, a gathering from this reporting resulted in three known Steuben positives so far and 16 contacts. Make informed decisions about how to celebrate the holidays safely this year.

There are 32 new cases of COVID-19 today in Steuben County. Sadly, another resident of Three Rivers has passed. Thankfully, 9 more have recovered. COVID-19 may... exist unknowingly at your work, social gatherings, or in local establishments you visit. Because you can encounter COVID-19 in so many places, it is imperative that you wear your mask and keep your social distance to prevent the spread. If you are feeling ill, even just with cold-like symptoms, stay home and get tested so that you do not unintentionally share COVID-19 with others. See more

22 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Steuben. Sadly, there have been 2 more deaths at Three Rivers. Thankfully, 10 more have recovered. Family g...atherings, and dinners, card games, and other social activities with friends and neighbors have contributed to new cases in Steuben County recently. The gatherings do not have to be overly large to produce multiple cases if one person in the group is positive without knowing it. Knowing the prevention practices of others during this time is a high priority to consider when gathering together to prevent the spread of COVID-19. COVID-19 has been difficult for most of us, but even more so for the families who have lost their loved ones. It has been especially hard for those families who lost loved ones in nursing homes and who were not able to see them regularly in what turned out to be their last year of life. Be mindful in your activities to increase the chance that loved ones are around next year.

Happy Thanksgiving! Media Release: November 17, 2020 Executive Order 202.74... In response to inquiries concerning enforcement of the Governor’s Order number 202.74, restricting private residential gatherings to ten persons or less, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office will continue to support the Steuben County Public Health Department in the COVID-19 response protocols. It is everyone’s responsibility to keep our community safe and healthy, and to not unnecessarily subject any of our family or neighbors to avoidable infection. Our enforcement activities, as always, are guided by necessity and resource allocation to best meet the public safety needs of the citizens of Steuben County. We are also regulated by the legal guidelines of our response to complaints as to whether or not we have license and privilege to enter private residences, based upon warrant, consent or exigent circumstances. As such, the men and women of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office will not be peeking in your window or attempting to enter your property to count the number of persons at your table on Thanksgiving. We encourage all citizens of Steuben County to abide by the COVID-19 response protocols as established by the Governor relative to gatherings in private residences. Keeping social circles as small as possible, especially during the holidays, will allow us to better weather the storm. We hope that everyone has a safe and healthy holiday season. Please keep your family safe during this challenging time. As always, the team at the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is here to help and to serve you, the citizens of Steuben County. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving! Sheriff Jim Allard

There have been 55 more people who tested positive for COVID-19 since Saturday. Sadly, another resident from Absolut Care Three Rivers has passed. Thankfully 4...7 more have recovered. Cases are not decreasing quite like we hoped to see. Now is not the time to give up being diligent. We have a tremendous community, and we need to continue working collectively by utilizing basic prevention strategies and being mindful about risky behaviors that can spread COVID-19.

NYS has set new guidelines in place effective at 10 pm on Friday to decrease the spread of COVID-19. The specific guidelines are detailed in the graphic and p...ress release included. These measures are meant to help us all see a lower number of cases, hopefully leading to less people severely impacted by COVID. The continued goal is to be mindful of our social activities and utilizing prevention strategies. County officials have shared: Public Health Director: Since Labor Day, we have seen a steady increase in cases in Steuben County. While we were very pleased to have the Yellow Zone designation removed yesterday, that does not mean we can let our guard down. Social gatherings and settings where mask wearing is not inherent have been a contributing factor to spread of the virus. County Manager: The guidelines are meant to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect our community. The County will not be going house-to-house checking on the gathering limit; instead, we continue our strong message for all residents to be mindful of their social circles and to keep them as small as possible. We all want to see our friends and family, but we must also be cognizant of the potential for spread more easily with larger gatherings. To protect loved ones, consider what your social gatherings will look like this season.
