SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24 With Halloween just one week away, I have been receiving numerous questions about how things will be managed on the 31st. To help facilita...te a safe environment for those families who are already planning to trick or treat in the Village, we will be closing certain streets within the Village to thru-traffic (residents of those streets will still be able to come and go as needed) from 5pm 8pm on Halloween. This will allow for greater freedom of movement while maintaining distancing for those who plan to trick or treat. Details can be found here: https://trumansburg-ny.gov//upl/2020/10/TburgHalloween.pdf The Tompkins County Health Department has provided detailed guidance on best practices for a safe Halloween. Choosing alternate activities to trick or treating is strongly encouraged. Guidance can be found here, which includes recommendations for how to distribute candy, recommendations for trick or treaters, and what activities to avoid: https://tompkinscountyny.gov//f/coronavirussocialdistance Fall is in full swing, and our Village DPW has begun leaf pickup throughout the Village. This will continue through the week of Thanksgiving. We ask that leaves be piled as close to the curb as possible, and that residents try to keep sticks and debris out of the leaf piles. Tompkins County is in the process of developing a multi-year Hazard Mitigation Plan to cover everything from natural disasters, to recurring storms and flooding, and much more. The completed plan will make the County, and municipalities within the County, eligible for any number of state and federal grants. Part of the planning process seeks input from the public which can be given through a short survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TompkinsHMP2020 Please take a few minutes to complete the survey with an eye to how the survey questions apply to you where you live. Finally, as we see a resurgence in Covid cases in surrounding municipalities, please remember the importance of taking care of yourself and your loved ones. Even beyond mask requirements and distancing guidelines, the time tested practices of hand washing, staying warm, and getting proper nutrition and adequate rest are key to staying healthy!

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8 Today wraps up the fourth full week of classes for Trumansburg School District, and I want to once again thank the teachers, staff, and adm...inistration for the tremendous efforts they continue to make to ensure as positive an educational experience as possible for their students. Everything about 2020 has been a lesson in flexibility and adaptation and I greatly appreciate the ongoing work-in-progess at TCSD. And speaking of the school, this year’s senior class is holding a chicken BBQ fundraiser this Saturday at 11am at Ron Don’s. The Class of 2021 continues to face a lot of uncertainty about what their senior year will look like, after already having missed out on numerous events at the end of their junior year. Please consider grabbing a meal and supporting the class as they raise money to make their last year in high school a memorable one! On the Village front, I am pleased to announce that we are in the final stages of securing a $125,000 grant to address certain stormwater issues in a few specific sections of the Village. While there will remain other areas of the Village that will continue to need attention, this is a fantastic start to a more comprehensive approach to stormwater management throughout the Village. I want to thank retiring Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton for nominating the Village for this grant award! More details to come as the process moves forward in the coming months.
