The Village Peephole 8/7/20 Good movies seem to be in short supply these days. The economic shutdown due to Covid-19 has forced Hollywood to postpone the release of many of its anticipated blockbusters. There are still a few good ones lingering out there (e.g., Hamilton) but it’s not like we are drowning in memorable flicks. Fortunately, we have a new one at the Village Library that is not only impressive and well-acted but educational as well. Dark Waters is based on a ...Continue reading

Gil Klein Virtual Presentation, 7/29, 1:30-2:30pm Last summer, the Friends of the Village Library hosted author Gil Klein as part of its summer program series. He spoke about the history of Lafayette Park, the park adjacent to the White House, which has been the sight of protests, murders and mayhem. Since he spoke to us, Lafayette Park is in the news once more as the place where the Black Lives Matter Protests have been closest to the President. On Wednesday, Gil Klein is do...ing a virtual presentation for the Arlington Virginia Department of Parks and Recreation. He will once again discuss his book, Trouble in Lafayette Square: Assassination, Protest and Murder at the White House, but this time he is updating his talk to discuss how the recent protests fit into that history. The talk will take place on July 29th from 1:30 to 2:30pm and can be accessed online for free at: https://parks.arlingtonva.us//lafayette-square-the-crossr/

I never saw it coming. Since that impressive start Grippando has emerged as a prolific writer of legal thrillers, penning several novels featuring the recurring character Jack Swyteck. All the Swyteck-based novels I’ve read have been very entertaining and engrossing and tend to provide a...Continue reading

The Village Peephole 6/19/20 One of the realities of living in Otsego County is that most of us don’t understand how our county government works. We know that we have a board of representatives and we like to complain about it (a favorite American pastime) but that’s about all. The whole structure of how we’re represented, what it’s like to run for office, and what the board actually does are basically foreign concepts. Is there a way to understand how our county government f...Continue reading
