Unfortunately, with the recent uptick of positive covid cases in Madison County, the Village of Canastota and the Town of Lenox have made the joint decision to... move the village/town hall office hours to appointment only for the time being. Please take note that both offices will be open by appointment only by calling: the village office at 315-697-7559 or the town office at 315-697-7547. Staff members are more than happy to help you with all of your needs and we apologize for any inconvenience. The Village of Canastota would like to extend a big thank you to New Water Technology for identifying a problem with our sewer processing yesterday. Their quick... thinking and observance of low flows coming into the plant found a break in our main line heading to the plant. Their quick actions helped facilitate a very timely repair. Thank you to our DPW for their fast response in assisting in making the repairs and also to CCI Construction for sending us manpower and machinery to assure that the repairs were made quickly! Without the fast response from CCI, the repair would have been seriously delayed. The problem was identified early in the morning and with the help of CCI, our DPW and NWT workers the broken line was repaired and back online by dinner time. We also thank the Oneida Indian Nation for allowing us access through their property to get to our sewer line and stage the job site. KUDOS to all involved to keep our system working. Job well done!

The Village of Canastota is so happy to welcome one of our newest businesses to the village. Happy One Nail Spa has moved into the shop right across from the vi...llage hall. They relocated here from New York City and offer full nail and a pedicure service. Never tried it before so I sat in a chair and got a manicure. I'll be back for sure! Great service and wonderful owners. Please welcome these new business owners to our village next time you are in the downtown. :)

TRAVELER ADVISORY WEEKEND PAVING OPERATION INTERSECTION OF ROUTES 5 &13 Village of Canastota, Madison County ... Starting, Saturday, November 7 through Sunday, November 8, 2020 weather permitting, between the hours of 6:30AM until 5;30PM, motorists traveling on Routes 5 Seneca Turnpike & Route 13, S Peterboro Street/Oxbow Road can expect to see a substantial increase in construction activity due to paving operations. Expect minor delays. Variable message signs have been in operation notifying local motorists of the paving operations. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.

The Village of Canastota has two (2) open positions on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Anyone who is interested in filling one of these spots, please let me know. ... These are volunteer positions that are required to meet as needed when something is on the agenda for the ZBA. Four (4) hours of training are also required yearly but any costs are covered by the village.

The Village of Canastota is excited to have another ribbon cutting this week! We'd like to invite the community to join us on Friday November 6th at 3pm to cut the ribbon at Happy One Nails. They are located on Peterboro St, right across from the Village Offices. They will have refreshments and are excited to meet the residents of our community.

The Village of Canastota and Canastota Police Department wants to hear from our residents as we draft the New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative plan. On June 12, 2020, Governor Andrew Cuomo issued Executive Order No. 203 requiring each local government in New York State to adopt a policing reform plan by April 1, 2021. The Order authorizes the Director of the Division of the Budget to condition State aid to localities on the adoption of such a plan. Th...e New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative asks all local police agencies to actively engage with stakeholders in the local community and have locally-approved plans for the strategies, policies, and procedures of local police agencies. The plan must include the appropriate role of the police, but allow the police to do their jobs to protect the public. The Village Of Canastota and Canastota Police Department held a meeting with key community members this week to start the conversation. Now, we are asking for public comment so that we can learn from the community as we review the current perspective of their relationship with the Canastota Police Department. Please either comment by using the online survey or mail in your comments. The public comment period is open until November 24, 2020. The comments will be used to help the offices draft their plan. La Bamba MTZ is now open in Canastota and serving authentic Mexican cuisine. A family-owned business, La Bamba MTZ gave Canastota residents a taste for what was to come the day before opening on Oct. 25.

Monday November 2nd 2020 Last Day for Bag and Brush Pickup. UPDATE From Mayor Rosanne Palamara Warner Yesterday (11/2/2020) was the last day for regular pickup but the DPW will still be picking up leaves, just not regularly on Monday's. While this years event will look very different we are still excited to see the Canastota Community on Halloween! Come dressed in your costume to our drive-thru event! Masks are required, even while in your car-this way we are still able to pass candy to your child/children. Event is 4-7pm with the first hour reserved for our friends that walk and from 5-7pm for our friends in vehicles.
