Mayor’s Thanksgiving Message: As we approach Thanksgiving, we take a moment to look back and then ahead. We remember those that have been lost and those that are sick. This has been a very difficult year. Many of us are, or feel, isolated, not able to be with our loved ones, something which is particularly difficult at this time of year. But we also look ahead to Thanksgiving and the holidays and the hope that this season brings. We have much to give thanks for- our health..., the health of our families and loved ones and the hope that next year our lives will return to normal. We in Great Neck have much to celebrate as a community. We live in a beautiful area with many resources that we are proud of, our schools, our parks, our proximity to the city, our downtown and the diversity of our community. Let us give thanks for all of this and let us pledge that we will do our best to help and protect one another- wear masks, practice social distancing, avoid large gatherings and take care of our neighbors and each other. On November 19, 2020, the CDC issued updated guidance for Thanksgiving. The CDC’s updated guidance, which may be found at https://www.cdc.gov//daily-life/holidays/thanksgiving.html, begins with this message: More than 1 million COVID-19 cases were reported in the United States over the last 7 days. As cases continue to increase rapidly across the United States, the safest way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to celebrate at home with the people you live with. Gatherings with family and friends who do not live with you can increase the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19 or the flu. My wife, Nancy, and I, Deputy Mayor Gerry Schneiderman, Deputy Mayor Pam Marksheid, Trustee Lawrence Katz and Trustee Michael DeLuccia urge you to follow the CDC’s guidelines and celebrate Thanksgiving safely. We wish all of you a very happy and safe Thanksgiving. Ted Rosen
