Vision Church NYC 01.02.2021

Devotion summary for 01.24.21 Pointing to the Life Beyond 2021: Discipleship in Technicolor 1 John 2:12-17, 1:5-10 A)God is calling our church to love the city in 2021... B)We are not called just to do something but to ask God: out of all the good things we could do, what would you have us do? Unless God gives us vision(the verb), we will labor in vain. C)God calls believers to be servants and not lords; Jesus did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many 1)No one person can show God to us. No one person can disciple us. It takes the whole church to disciple and show God to us. 2)Discipleship is teaching others how to grow in their relationship with God and to follow Jesus. It is not just the uber christians who teach us how but the whole community 3)Each person has something to teach/disciple us about God. Each person is discipling whether we aware of it or not; accidental or intentional; passively or actively. The call to discipleship is also a call to be humble and seek to learn, grow 4)The starting point of discipleship is studying, learning, reading about how to be a Christian which provides the structure/skeleton of how to walk with God. 5)It is the spirit and life of the community that shapes the culture and completes the discipleship; Values are caught and not taught 6)A healthy church culture disciples its members to know that they have been forgiven; to be in intimate relationship with God; to overcome evil; to have the word of God connecting us to God; and to be transparent/confessional.

Devotion summary for 01.17.21 Pointing to the Life Beyond 2021:Serving the City 2021 Mark 10:35-45 1)God is calling our church to love the city in 2021... 2)We are not called just to do something but to ask God: out of all the good things we could do, what would you have us do? Unless God gives us vision(the verb), we will labor in vain. 3)God calls believers to be servants and not lords; Jesus did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many 4)Jesus uses his privilege to become a servant; he does not clutch at his privilege and serve when it’s convenient for him but faithfully endures difficulty and even death to give life 5)When we serve like Jesus, we learn obedience and love not just intellectually but through experience. When we experience the depth of Jesus’s love it powers us to love others more 6)It is impossible to mature and become like Jesus without responding to his call to deny self, take up the cross and do the challenging and difficult things he gives 7)Our service is always a reflection of what we understand and experience about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus See more
