VICTORIA’S SECRET declared bankruptcy. ZARA closed 1,200 stores. CHANEL, HERMÈS and ROLEX have stopped production. NIKE is getting ready for stage two of layoff...s. AIRBnB founder says that due to the pandemic, 12 years of effort were destroyed in 6 weeks. STARBUCKS announced the permanent closure of 400 stores. And the list continues... Five months since the pandemic started and it has created huge debts, many of our friends and family are out of work and unemployed with tens of thousands of businesses now out of service. If the company you work for continues with no pay reduction or layoffs, then treat it well and have respect for what the owner(s) must be going through to keep it going. 2020 is about survival, leave the daily complaints/moans and anything else minor behind, be thankful and show respect for what you have. Work hard and show your boss/owner/company the appreciation they need and deserve. And support any small business you know. If your employer is STILL paying you BE GRATEFUL INSTEAD OF HATEFUL. Understand that there has often been YEARS of debt, tears, and sweat equity that has gotten them to this point that you have never seen. The events of the last few months have greatly impacted not only the businesses, but their personal lives since it’s their livelihood in most cases. It’s how they pay rent, mortgages, and put food on their table for their family. I know many business owners not paying themselves to help float their teams’ paychecks. As best you can, step into their shoes and see through the lens that can never be fully comprehended until you write someone’s else’s paycheck on a regular basis that covers their rent, mortgage, or puts food on their table. Instead of adding to a very full plate of your boss or a business owner you know, offer in kindness to take something off of it. A little kindness goes a long way. Seek to be someone who not only respects what it takes to get past a few months of business, never mind years. Remember the average business owner doesn’t make it past year one and odds of that percentage is only trending upward. Look to add value. It’s the best job security you will ever have, even in the uncharted waters we are facing today. Who knows, this might just help you keep or find work in the future.
