Vestal Little League 22.12.2020

At long last the day is here, it is time for baseball. We are resuming today and can hardly wait. When the games begin and they are playing baseball it will look like little league has always looked on the field. But around the fields, things will be much different. Our goal is to let the kids play baseball and have fun. We are now the only little league in the area that is going to have a season, and we have done a ton of work to make this happen and to do it in a manner...Continue reading

Vestal Little League 18.12.2020

Dear Vestal Little League Parents: Just as we had taken two steps forward, we now have to take a step back. Such is life in 2020. Last week we had been told by our town government, the county government, and by the head of New York’s Little League Baseball that we could begin practices. This was because the Governor’s office had classified baseball as a low risk activity, and the governor’s office had also indicated that we could begin baseball games on or af...ter 7/6/2020. Because the governor was silent with respect to whether practice could begin immediately, out of caution we still reached out to Governor Cuomo’s office directly for confirmation that we could commence practices. After getting no response from the governor’s office for days, we began to practice consistent with the local, county and our governing organization’s indications we could do so. However, yesterday afternoon the governor’s office issued interim guidance for restarting recreational activities and responded via email with us to make sure we were aware of this guidance. Baseball has now been moved into the moderate risk category. While low risk activities can continue right now, baseball (including practices) is moderate risk per the governor’s office and cannot begin until 7/6/2020. To say that we are disappointed would be an understatement. Yet, one of our values as an organization, which we try to pass on to the kids in Vestal Little League (and this is even in the Little League Pledge that we say before every game) is that we will respect the laws. So upon receiving this email and the guidance, the Board met and immediately agreed unanimously that we must hit the pause button. We have postponed all baseball activities until 7/6/2020. The good news is that the guidance from the governor’s office gave us a lot of specificity. It confirmed that our reopening plan is sound, and that there are only a few minor changes/enhancements we will need to add to our plan in order to reopen in accordance with the guidance that has now been provided. So as we approach Father’s Day weekend, we would encourage you to get out to the parks. They are open. Dust off the ball glove, play catch with your kids. Get them ready for the season. We are not going to have near as much of a preseason (none really) as we typically do. So the more you can do to help prepare your kids for the season the better season they will have when we get back underway. We are sorry to have to bring you this disappointing news. But we are still excited about the season ahead. Have a wonderful weekend, and to all the fathers and grandfathers, Happy Father’s Day! Sincerely, The Vestal Little League Board

In the next day or two, if you have a child who is in Majors or Minors Division you will be hearing from the head coach of their team regarding your practice times. Attached to this email is a liability waiver that will need to be completed, signed and turned into your head coach before your child will be allowed to participate in any Vestal Little League activities. There will be no exceptions. If the waiver is not completed, your child cannot participate. We thank you in... advance for your understanding and cooperation. For parents of AAA aged kids, hold on to this waiver. The skills clinics that are planned for later this summer will also require that you complete this waiver in order for your child to participate in those skill clinics. Again, there will be no exceptions. Everyone enjoy the beautiful sunshine today. We look forward to seeing everyone at the ball field soon. Best Regards, The Vestal Little League Board

Vestal Little League 09.12.2020

Dear Parents: We are pleased to give you some good news to begin your weekend. With the Southern Tier having now entered Phase 3 of the reopening, we are right on track to play baseball with games (Majors and Minors Divisions) commencing in early July. A complete schedule will be posted in the coming days on our webpage and your child’s manager/coach will let you know when that schedule is posted. More immediately, because the parks are reop...ening to the public and because with social distancing and other safety precautions baseball practices can be conducted safely, we plan (subject to final approval from the county and town) to begin practices starting this coming week (the week of June 15, 2020). Your team manager will be providing you with details on when these practices will be held and the location of the practices. Please know that we will maximize social distancing during practices, we will do drills in very small groups during these practices, and coaches (per our reopening plan) will be wearing masks the entire time. Attached please find our guidelines for reopening. These have been developed based upon the best practices from the CDC, New York State, Broome County and Little League International. We have shared these plans with the appropriate government officials and have had nothing but positive feedback. We would ask you, as parents, to review these guidelines and if you have any concerns about these guidelines, please let the manager of your child’s team know of your concerns by no later than Monday, June 15, 2020 so that we can try do address them. Finally, we need to caution everyone that the plans we are announcing now could be subject to change based upon unforeseen guidance we may receive from state, county or local governments. If nothing else, this pandemic has taught us that things we are being told one day, can be entirely different the next day. We do not expect anything to change, but wanted to just add this word of caution. We are excited to start getting back underway with baseball. We have missed the kids, we have missed game, we have missed the community that is Vestal Little League. Have a great weekend. Best Regards, The Vestal Little League Board

Vestal Little League 22.10.2020

Good Morning: Vestal Little League is still very much in need of people who would be willing to manage a National League Majors Team. The National League is typically comprised of primarily kids who are moving up for the first year in Majors after having played in the Minors level of Little League Baseball. If your son or daughter is going to be moving up to the Majors Division for the first time this year, please consider volunteering to manage a team. Please contact Josh Gannon at [email protected] if you are interested in being considered for a National League managing position by no later than 2/14/2020, or if you have questions you can also contact Josh Gannon via email and he would be glad to discuss any questions you might have. Best Regards, Vestal Little League
