Brittany didn't let curbside care dampen her enthusiasm for Halloween! Brittany has been faithfully seeing Dr Davignon for her immune-mediated polyarthritis for seven years. Fortunately her disease has been in remission for years, so we only need to see her for annual rechecks. (We suspect Dr D purposely schedules them around Halloween so we can see her in costume!) Brittany always brings Halloween treats for her team in the Internal Medicine department even though she's an extra special treat all on her own.

This year we've watched our technicians work through the most professionally and personally challenging year we've experienced with humor, grace, and compassion. Their workload skyrocketed. They continued to work every day as essential workers during the very alarming early days of the shutdown. They shifted their entire workflow to accommodate curbside care, 12 hour masked shifts, and threats of supply shortages. And through all that they never forgot to care for and comfort... your pets -- to calm the frightened pets, to snuggle the needy pets, and -- as seen here -- to celebrate the super cute pets who got treatment and now feel better. Our team of Licensed Veterinary Technicians deliver advanced medical treatments and cuddles with equal skill. They are so critically important to our facility and our ability to provide 24/7 emergency and specialty care. We would be nowhere without them. Please join us in thanking our Licensed Veterinary Technicians both this week for National Veterinary Technician Week and for every other week of the year. We are grateful for our team every single day. #nvtw2020 #WeHeartVetTechs

Our Internal Medicine Service is offering telemedicine consults for you and your pets! If you choose an IM teleconsult, our specialist will fully review your pet's medical record/referral information/client questionnaire in advance of your telephone call. After the call, a complete report is generated summarizing the discussion, the recommended diagnostics, and/or the recommended treatment plan. This report is sent to you and your family veterinarian. If you are interested in pursuing the recommended plan, we arrange a drop off appointment for your pet's physical examination and further work-up. Pet owner response to the teleconsult system has been overwhelmingly positive. Contact us for more information about scheduling with Dr Davignon and Dr Chandler!

We got a nice shout out from Dr. Andy Roark last night! Check out our original in the comments here or on the original post. We all want to help pets. None of us want to be abused.

We've got an August update for CNY pet owners:

Mya is a diabetic and sees our Internal Medicine service regularly for day-long blood glucose curves where we measure her blood sugar throughout the day. Mya LOVES to give kisses and has always had a special talent for surprising us all with mouth kisses when we're not expecting it! We think the masks have thrown her off a bit, so now she's taken to licking our eyeballs and ears! Mya is one of Medicine’s favorite patients because her eyebrows are on point and she's so spunky -- she plays and brightens everyone's day with her antics. We hope she will brighten yours!

It's that time of year again! Please be conscious of toxic algal blooms in our area waters. Harmful algal blooms produce toxins that can make people very ill and can be fatal to animals. New York State maintains a map of current reported algal sites, as well as more information about how to identify the algae and how to report it if you see it. Learn more about them to keep you and your pets safe.
