Congratulations to Adam Mogensen and Mitchell Waterman! These two gentlemen are our newest interior firefighters. They completed the NYS Interior Firefighter Course totaling an additional 60 hours of training. This is the second class of two which totals 139 hours of training of both classroom and hands on practical skills to reach the interior firefighter level. Thank you for your commitment to your community!

Over the past couple days the Coast Guard in Buffalo have received 2 mayday calls from the Oneida Lake area. Every fire department on the lake, ambulances, sher...iff’s boats, the US Coast Guard and a helicopter from the Canadian Coast Guard responded to one or both and found no boats in distress or sinking. This needs to stop, it is dangerous for the first responders and for people who may need these resources. Below is from the FCC website regarding false calls on marine radios. Parties in violation of these provisions may be subject to the penalties contained within Sections 501-510 of the Communications Act, 47 U.S.C. 501- 510. Fines for a first offense can range as high as $11,000 for each violation or imprisonment for up to one year. The radio equipment can also be seized and forfeited to the U.S. Government. Further, the Coast Guard can recover the costs of its rescue efforts when the initiating distress call is determined to be false. These costs can be as much as $5,000 an hour. If anyone knows anything about these calls, please notify your local authorities.

So another successful bowling tournament in the books. I can’t believe this was our 5th year already. I would like to thank VISTA Bowling Center, our lane spons...ors, Nick Carcone of the Maynard fire department winner of the 50/50 which he donated back to Believe 271 ( that’s a class act).To all the bowlers today a huge thank you for turning out today to support our cause. Because of you we can do our mission to support our brothers and sisters in the fire service to help fight life threatening illnesses. As a result Believe 271 will be receiving a check for $3,859.00 this year. NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!! See more
